“Then you will understand righteousness and justice [in every circumstance] And integrity and every good path. 10For [skillful and godly] wisdom will enter your heart And knowledge will be pleasant to your soul.” Proverbs 2:10 AMP
The benefits of wisdom are limitless. Knowing God, standing with Him, covered by His shield, walking in integrity, guarding justice and honorable moral character are just some of the rewards for following God’s way. But how do we enter those things? Is just knowing the precepts and ways of God enough to get us there? Of course not! In verses 7&8 we read the following:
“He stores away sound wisdom for the righteous [those who are in right standing with Him]; He is a shield to those who walk in integrity [those of honorable character and moral courage], 8He guards the paths of justice; And He preserves the way of His saints (believers).” Proverbs 2:7-8AMP
Notice a few key words in those verses; standing, walk, paths, and way. All of these words indicate action on the part of the believer. There are many today that know the Word of God but they do little to put it “into action.” The book of James is one of my favorite because it brings a person face to face with the reality that being a Christian is more than words! It means putting into action the things that we learned! The Dead Sea is dead because the water flows into it but not out! Life cannot exist under those conditions and so it is with our spiritual life. Even now the dead sea is dying because of the evaporation of the water that is actually there! It reminds me of a verse in the book of Mark,
“Then He said to them, “Pay attention to what you hear. By your own standard of measurement [that is, to the extent that you study spiritual truth and apply godly wisdom] it will be measured to you [and you will be given even greater ability to respond]—and more will be given to you besides.” Mark 4:24 AMP
BAM! Clearly the Lord was telling them that they must “measure” the Word and how they do is what the result will be! There is action written all over this verse. The trouble today is that people quote the Word but then sit idly by expecting a miracle when there is no action on their part. I am not saying that God is sovereign and in control, I am saying that at times we are our own worst enemy when it comes to being obedient to the Word. We constantly find excuses for our disobedience. There are many times that the Word of God doesn’t make sense to us. We are in financial difficulty and don’t tithe, but the Word says give! We expect healing but keep talking about sickness. We say that we are more than conquers in Christ Jesus but cower at that sight of the enemy’s attack! The Bible is clear that,
“For My thoughts are not your thoughts, Nor are your ways My ways,” declares the LORD. 9“For as the heavens are higher than the earth, So are My ways higher than your ways And My thoughts higher than your thoughts. 10“For as the rain and snow come down from heaven, And do not return there without watering the earth, Making it bear and sprout, And providing seed to the Sower and bread to the eater, 11So will My word be which goes out of My mouth; It will not return to Me void (useless, without result), Without accomplishing what I desire, And without succeeding in the matter for which I sent it.” Isiah 55:11 AMP
WOW! What a promise. If we would simply believe and trust Him and His ways, our ground would be watered and produce good works for the Kingdom of God!
Have a blessed day, Pastor Ken
