To Be Admired

“Happy [blessed, considered fortunate, to be admired] is the man who finds [skillful and godly] wisdom, And the man who gains understanding and insight [learning from God’s word and life’s experiences], 14For wisdom’s profit is better than the profit of silver, And her gain is better than fine gold.” Proverbs 3:13-14 AMP

In our world today, there are many athletes, actors, famous people, and musicians that seem to hold the attention of thousands if not millions of people. There is no limit to what one might pay to see or hear their favorite play, sing, or speak! Then, when time has taken its toll, fame, and beauty fade into the distant past and many shipwreck their lives trying to get it back! Those whom we thought “had it all” tragically suddenly end their lives in emptiness surrounded by all the perceived wealth of the world. I have first-hand experience working with kings and princes I can tell you that they could give you a million dollars tomorrow, but they are some of the most unhappy people I have ever met. The Scripture however gives us a solid place to place our feet! The one who is to be admired and considered fortunate is the one who understands God’s Word and lives it out!

The word translated “happy” is the Hebrew word for blessedness. It means to have good fortune; to live in a state of a joyful mind. Notice that it doesn’t indicate a need for physical substance but rather an understanding of God’s ways! We see support for this in the Scripture,

“Where there is no vision [no revelation of God and His word], the people are unrestrained; But happy and blessed is he who keeps the law [of God]. Proverbs 29:18 AMP

WOW! Isn’t that a picture of the world today? We are seeing the fulfillment of that verse as we watch those who have rejected God’s way and have chosen a path of destruction. It really is a choice that we make every day. We choose what to dwell on, what to believe, and how to respond to the distractions of the world.  The Apostle Paul told the Colossians,

“Therefore if you have been raised with Christ [to a new life, sharing in His resurrection from the dead], keep seeking the things that are above, where Christ is, seated at the right hand of God. 2Set your mind and keep focused habitually on the things above [the heavenly things], not on things that are on the earth [which have only temporal value].” Colossians 3:1-2 AMP

Verse two clearly gives us a lifesaving instruction. “2Set your mind and keep focused habitually on the things above [the heavenly things.” That is the hard part! How to keep our attention of things above while living here below? We can’t of course! Unless we have someone to remind us and encourage us to continue keeping our hearts, and mind set of His Word…Oh! Jesus told us,

“But the Helper (Comforter, Advocate, Intercessor—Counselor, Strengthener, Standby), the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in My name [in My place, to represent Me and act on My behalf], He will teach you all things. And He will help you remember everything that I have told you.” John 14:26 AMP

You can see now why it is so important that we have a living relationship with the Holy Spirit! The Holy Spirit was not just given to the disciples but available to every born-again believer in Christ! The Scripture tells us that He “breathed” on them, and they received. If God has breathed new life upon you, then receive of the gift of the Holy Spirit and begin to have victory over your body, mind, and soul! Have a blessed day, Pastor Ken
