“For the lips of an immoral woman drip honey [like a honeycomb] And her speech is smoother than oil; 4But in the end she is bitter like [the extract of] wormwood, Sharp as a two-edged sword. 5Her feet go down to death; Her steps take hold of Sheol (the nether world, the place of the dead), 6So that she does not think [seriously] about the path of life; Her ways are aimless and unstable; you cannot know where her path leads.
Proverbs 5:3-6 AMP
While we can attribute this description to the lure of sin, he is clearly warning here to the realm of sexual lust. The reader is warned about the lure of adultery, fornication, and other forms of uncleanness which lead a person to commit sexual sin. The Apostle Paul told the church at Corinth,
“Do you not know that the unrighteous will not inherit or have any share in the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived; neither the sexually immoral, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor (perversely) effeminate, nor homosexuals,”
1 Corinthians 6:9 AMP
The sexual revolution of the 60’s and 70’s has brought us to a place of total disregard for the confines in which we are given for the practice of intimate relations. The seventh command says, “Do not commit adultery.” While many attribute adultery to the commission of the act, Jesus put a new light on the subject.
““You have heard that it was said, ‘YOU SHALL NOT COMMIT ADULTERY’; 28but I say to you that everyone who [so much as] looks at a woman with lust for her has already committed adultery with her in his heart.”
Matthew 5:27-28 AMP
You see, sin begins as an internal process. The book of James describes the process in exact detail,
“But each one is tempted when he is dragged away, enticed and baited [to commit sin] by his own [worldly] desire (lust, passion). 15Then when the illicit desire has conceived, it gives birth to sin; and when sin has run its course, it gives birth to death. 16Do not be misled, my beloved brothers and sisters.”
James 1:14-16 AMP
Lust and passion is a door that is not easily closed once it is open! It has resulted in the death of millions of unborn children in the name of convenience! The sensual appetite is a powerful force that is a part of this body. It however, like any other area of our life, needs to be controlled. Many a life and family have been ruined by the disregard of the sensual appetite! Solomon is reminding the young that what appears to be good and desirous and brings about life, can also bring about pain and suffering, even death, if not kept under control. You see it isn’t that the sexual part of our lives is evil. The problem is that sin has tainted our ability to adequately control the gift that is within us. The pleasures of fleshly lust are very alluring, like the enticing call of wine in the glass. We read,
“Do not look at wine when it is red, When it sparkles in the glass, When it goes down smoothly. 32At the last it bites like a serpent And stings like a viper.”
Proverbs 23:31-32 AMP
I want to make it clear that God does not hold one sin over another. Sin is sin and abominable in the eyes of God. Whether lying, stealing, adultery, homosexuality, greed, gluttony, or whatever drives you to disobedience, there is a cure! Forgiveness can be had through the shed blood of our Savior. If you are filling to repent, He is willing to forgive and restore your life! Have a blessed day, Pastor Ken
Amen. Thank you.
