A Broken Heart

“A worthless person, a wicked man, Is one who walks with a perverse (corrupt, vulgar) mouth. 13Who winks with his eyes [in mockery], who shuffles his feet [to signal], Who points with his fingers [to give subversive instruction]; 14Who perversely in his heart plots trouble and evil continually; Who spreads discord and strife. 15Therefore [the crushing weight of] his disaster will come suddenly upon him; Instantly he will be broken, and there will be no healing or remedy [because he has no heart for God].” Proverbs 6:12-15 AMP

King Solomon gives us good advice today to steer clear of the wicked and worthless person! If you remember from Proverbs 5:12, this is a person who refuses to yield to the ways of God.

“And you say, “How I hated instruction and discipline, And my heart despised correction and reproof!” Proverbs 5:12 AMP

The words used to describe this person are clear and distinct. Worthless is the Hebrew word meaning “that which does not conform to a right standard,” or “to practice a thing that is abhorred or detested.” It feeds right into the next word “wicked.” Wickedness is the result of worthless behavior! The word means “to practice that which is morally corrupt and damaging to one’s relationship to God and others.” WOW! I don’t think there is a better description for what is happening to mankind today. Job also warns of the dangers of living a worthless and wicked life.

““Indeed, the light of the wicked will be put out, And the flame of his fire will not shine. 6“The light will be dark in his tent, And his lamp beside him will be put out. 7“The vigorous stride will be shortened, And his own counsel and the scheme [in which he trusted] will bring his downfall. 8“For the wicked is thrown into a net by his own feet (wickedness), And he steps on the webbing [of the lattice-covered pit]. 9“A snare catches him by the heel, And a trap snaps shut on him. 10“A noose is hidden for him on the ground, and a trap for him on the path.” Job 18:5-10 AMP

The harsh reality of sin is that God will judge it in the end. There may seem to be a season of gain for those who have abandoned God’s ways but in the end their sin will be dealt with!

“I will send them great trouble— all the things they feared. For when I called, they did not answer. When I spoke, they did not listen. They deliberately sinned before my very eyes and chose to do what they know I despise.”

Isaiah 66:4 NLT

There will come a moment in the life of a sinner that they will begin to actually believe that the practice of their sin is an acceptable thing before God. The above Scripture says that God will give them over to their delusions and the consequences thereof. Paul wrote in the book of Romans,

“And since they did not see fit to acknowledge God or consider Him worth knowing [as their Creator], God gave them over to a depraved mind, to do things which are improper and repulsive, 29until they were filled (permeated, saturated) with every kind of unrighteousness, wickedness, greed, evil; full of envy, murder, strife, deceit, malice and mean-spiritedness.”

Romans 1:28-29 AMP

Sounds to me a lot like what we are seeing in the sexual confusion of the ungodly attempting to sooth their conscience from the guilt of their ways. We can however, find forgiveness and grace at the cross of Jesus Christ and have a restored life with God!

Let me encourage you today that even as we see the world circling the drain with its immorality and impurity, we win! Yes, the road is difficult, and times are changing. We must not fall victim to anger and frustration against those who are trapped in sins grip. We are called to love the unlovely and pray for those who persecute us. Remember, the words of the Apostle Peter.

“Above all, have fervent and unfailing love for one another, because love covers a multitude of sins [it overlooks unkindness and unselfishly seeks the best for others].”

1 Peter 4:8 AMP

But for the grace of God, there go I! Have a blessed day, Pastor Ken
