“My son, be guided by your father’s [God-given] commandment (instruction) And do not reject the teaching of your mother; 21Bind them continually upon your heart (in your thoughts), And tie them around your neck.22When you walk about, they (the godly teachings of your parents) will guide you; When you sleep, they will keep watch over you; And when you awake, they will talk to you. 23For the commandment is a lamp, and the teaching [of the law] is light, And reproofs (rebukes) for discipline are the way of life,”
Proverbs 6:20-20 AMP
The next section of Proverbs 6 is an exhortation to adhere to the Word of God and use it for a guide to our life. Verse 23 tells us that it is truly the “light” and “law” from which our understand should come. The light of God’s Word is the illumination our truth of life’s journey. It allows us then to see the path that we should walk! The Psalms tells us that,
“Your word is a lamp to my feet And a light to my path.” Psalms 119:105 AMP
In my younger years I worked as a security guard at an abandoned steel factory. Of course, being the new guy I havd the graveyard shift (midnight to morning). Part of my duty was to hourly make rounds to be sure that the facility was secure. My best friend was my flashlight to help me see and my sidearm to keep me safe. My flashlight allowed me to illuminate my path and revel hidden dangers in the darkness. My sidearm gave me a level of protection if I used it correctly! It is the same with the Word of God. If we keep God’s Word shining along the path of our life we will have a greater chance of identifying dangers that could harm us. We can then use the Word of God as our defense and protection from the attacks and snares of the enemy.
It is important that we continually spend time in His Word. The Word has a cleansing effect that revels to us the areas of sin that are still plaguing our lives. It settles deep within us and begins to clarify and purify our thinking. However, it must be used in order to bring about real change. As our thinking process change, our actions then follow. The Apostle John wrote,
“Sanctify them in the truth [set them apart for Your purposes, make them holy]; Your word is truth.”
John 17:17 AMP
The call from God to man is,
“So prepare your minds for action, be completely sober [in spirit–steadfast, self-disciplined, spiritually and morally alert], fix your hope completely on the grace [of God] that is coming to you when Jesus Christ is revealed. 14[Live] as obedient children [of God]; do not be conformed to the evil desires which governed you in your ignorance [before you knew the requirements and transforming power of the good news regarding salvation]. 15But like the Holy One who called you, be holy yourselves in all your conduct [be set apart from the world by your godly character and moral courage]; 16because it is written, “YOU SHALL BE HOLY (set apart), FOR I AM HOLY.”
1 Peter 13-16 AMP
I love the description of the Word of God’s activity, “they will keep watch over you; And when you awake, they will talk to you.” Have you talked with God today? I encourage you to take time each and every day to sit with God and search His Word listening for the voice of the Holy Spirit and He will speak!
Have a blessed day, Pastor Ken

Hallelujah. Thank you pastor for this wonderful message.
In a previous message, you talked, about transformation. Psalm 119: 105 is a memory verse our church memorized as a group. It is also a verse we learned at Celebrate Recovery. And your sharing it in this message. I believe God is telling me The Word is vital in my transformation. Thank You
