“To you, O men, I call, And my voice is directed to the sons of men. 5“O you naive or inexperienced [who are easily misled], understand prudence and seek astute common sense; And, O you [closed-minded, self-confident] fools, understand wisdom [seek the insight and self-discipline that leads to godly living].6“Listen, for I will speak excellent and noble things; And the opening of my lips will reveal right things. 7“For my mouth will utter truth, And wickedness is repulsive and loathsome to my lips. 8“All the words of my mouth are in righteousness (upright, in right standing with God); There is nothing contrary to truth or perverted (crooked) in them.”
Proverbs 8:5-8 AMP
Solomon uses the story of a young man driven by his sexual passion as a metaphor for the dangerous call of sin. Remember that sin isn’t the action that you do but rather the force that tempts you to do it! God makes this perfectly clear in the book of Genesis from the start!
“And the LORD said to Cain, “Why are you so angry? And why do you look annoyed? 7If you do well [believing Me and doing what is acceptable and pleasing to Me], will you not be accepted? And if you do not do well [but ignore My instruction], sin crouches at your door; its desire is for you [to overpower you], but you must master it.”
Genesis 4:6-7 AMP
In the above section, the first verse tells us that wisdom (the Word of God) calls unto the “sons of men.” We often hear the excuse that the Bible is not relevant to today. Well, if you are living in a society that has rejected the boundaries of morality then it is not relevant. Look at verse 5,
“To you, O men, I call, And my voice is directed to the sons of men. 5“O you naive or inexperienced [who are easily misled], understand prudence and seek astute common sense; And, O you [closed-minded, self-confident] fools, understand wisdom [seek the insight and self-discipline that leads to godly living]”
Proverbs 8:5 AMP
Notice the description of the foolish person, closed-minded, (not considering God’s ways) self-confident, (in their sinful practices) and undisciplined toward Godly living! But, if you are seeking truth and reality, the Word of God it is 100% relevant! Verse 6 gives us the answer to the problem!
“Listen, for I will speak excellent and noble things; And the opening of my lips will reveal right things. “For my mouth will utter truth, And wickedness is repulsive and loathsome to my lips.” Proverbs 8:6-7 AMP
Jesus told His disciples,
“And you will know the truth [regarding salvation], and the truth will set you free [from the penalty of sin].”
John 8:32 AMP
I remember the night I confronted God about the truth of His Word. I fell on my knees beside my bed exhausted from the battle against the drugs and said, “You Word says that the blood of Christ applied to the bond of my sin can set me free. I that isn’t the truth tonight I die!” I crawled into and cried myself to sleep hoping that God would make good on His promise. The next morning when I awoke, I knew it was finished! For the first time in almost 10 years, I knew I was free! The air was fresher, the colors more vibrant and the sun was shining like never before! I took everything I had, flushed it down the toilet. That was more than 40 years ago and I never went back to that dark place again. Why! The Word of God is true and more powerful than any weapon that Satan can throw at us, if we will simply give God a chance!
Let me encourage you today to give God a chance. You have nothing to lose and everything to gain! Have a blessed day, Pastor Ken
Amen our dearest pastor Ken.
