“The LORD created and possessed me at the beginning of His way, Before His works of old [were accomplished] 23“From everlasting I was established and ordained, From the beginning, before the earth existed, [I, godly wisdom, existed].
Proverbs 7:22-23 AMP
We find here now an allusion indirectly connecting the wisdom, the Word, and the preexistence of the Jesus. In the proceeding verses, 24-31 we see statements the wisdom was with Him from before the beginning. The allusion here takes us back to John 1:1;
“1In the beginning [before all time] was the Word ([a]Christ), and the Word was with God, and [b]the Word was God Himself.2He was [continually existing] in the beginning [co-eternally] with God. 3All things were made and came into existence through Him; and without Him not even one thing was made that has come into being.”
John 1:1-3 AMP
The picture painted from verse 24 -31 is that of the creation of the world and man! I love the statement in verses 30-31;
“Then I was beside Him, as a master craftsman; And I was daily His delight; Rejoicing before Him always,31Rejoicing in the world, His inhabited earth, And having my delight in the sons of men.”
Proverbs 8:30-31 AMP
The statement “and I was daily His delight” should remind us of the day God spoke over His Son,
“After Jesus was baptized, He came up immediately out of the water; and behold, the heavens were opened, and he (John) saw the Spirit of God descending as a dove and lighting on Him (Jesus), 17and behold, a voice from heaven said, “This is My beloved Son, in whom I am well-pleased and delighted!”” Matthew 3:17-18 AMP
We also see reference to the reason Jesus came to redeem man, “…and having My delight in the sons of man.” The book of Hebrews reminds us,
“Therefore, it was essential that He had to be made like His brothers (mankind) in every respect, so that He might [by experience] become a merciful and faithful High Priest in things related to God, to make atonement (propitiation) for the people’s sins [thereby wiping away the sin, satisfying divine justice, and providing a way of reconciliation between God and mankind]. 18Because He Himself [in His humanity] has suffered in being tempted, He is able to help and provide immediate assistance to those who are being tempted and exposed to suffering.”
Hebrews 2:17-18 AMP
One of my favorite verses in the Bible reminding me of His love and delight for me is in the book of Hebrews.
“looking away from all that will distract us and] focusing our eyes on Jesus, who is the Author and Perfecter of faith [the first incentive for our belief and the One who brings our faith to maturity], who for the joy [of accomplishing the goal] set before Him endured the cross, disregarding the shame, and sat down at the right hand of the throne of God [revealing His deity, His authority, and the completion of His work].” Hebrews 12:2 AMP
Clearly the intention of verses 22-31 is to get us to focus on the Word of God as the source of wisdom for the time we reside on this side of heaven. If you desire to be victorious, satisfied, and prosperous, let the Word of God accomplish its work in you!
Have a blessed day, Pastor Ken
