“Wisdom has built her [spacious and sufficient] house; She has hewn out and set up her seven pillars.2She has prepared her food, she has mixed her wine; She has also set her table. 3She has sent out her maidens, she calls From the highest places of the city: 4“Whoever is naive or inexperienced, let him turn in here!” As for him who lacks understanding, she says, 5“Come, eat my food And drink the wine I have mixed [and accept my gifts]. 6“Leave [behind] your foolishness [and the foolish] and live, And walk in the way of insight and understanding.”
Proverbs 9:1-6 AMP
In Proverbs chapter 9 we are shown the eternal struggle for the souls of man! The first part of the Proverb revels the call of Christ. The second, the call of sin. Both ways are presented as an invitation for entertainment of the soul. Both tells us clearly the end point of their path and call for us to decide to which we will pledge our lives! I love the picture of the first verse. It reminds me that Christ has made a way and is forever calling to those who are lost in sins grip! Jesus said,
“1“Do not let your heart be troubled (afraid, cowardly). Believe [confidently] in God and trust in Him, [have faith, hold on to it, rely on it, keep going and] believe also in Me. 2In My Father’s house are many dwelling places. If it were not so, I would have told you, because I am going there to prepare a place for you. 3And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come back again and I will take you to Myself, so that where I am you may be also. 4And [to the place] where I am going, you know the way.”
John 14:1-4 AMP
He has built a spacious and sufficient house for us and has shown us the way through His Word. The next two verses also speak of Christ’s ever-calling voice to come home! Remember the parable that He taught?
“So the servant came back and reported this to his master. Then [his master,] the head of the household, became angry [at the rejections of his invitation] and said to his servant, ‘Go out quickly into the streets and the lanes of the city and bring in here the poor and the disabled and the blind and the lame.’22And the servant [after returning] said, ‘Sir, what you commanded has been done, and still there is room.’ 23Then the master told the servant, ‘Go out into the highways and along the hedges, and compel them to come in, so that my house may be filled [with guests]. 24For I tell you, not one of those who were invited [and declined] will taste my dinner.’”
Luke 14:21-24 AMP
The call then is to those who are naive and inexperienced. The call of God has always been,
“O taste and see that the LORD [our God] is good; How blessed [fortunate, prosperous, and favored by God] is the man who takes refuge in Him.”
Psalms 34:8 AMP
In the book of Isaiah we read,
““Everyone who thirsts, come to the waters; And you who have no money come, buy grain and eat. Come, buy wine and milk Without money and without cost [simply accept it as a gift from God]”
Isaiah 55:1 AMP
