“Restless and Noisy”
“The foolish woman is restless and noisy; She is naive and easily misled and thoughtless and knows nothing at all [of eternal value]. 14She sits at the doorway of her house, On a seat by the high and conspicuous places of the city, 15Calling to those who pass by, Who are making their paths straight: 16“Whoever is naive or inexperienced, let him turn in here!” And to him who lacks understanding (common sense), she says, 17“Stolen waters (pleasures) are sweet [because they are forbidden]; And bread eaten in secret is pleasant.” 18But he does not know that the spirits of the dead are there, And that her guests are [already] in the depths of Sheol (the nether world, the place of the dead).
Proverbs 9:13-18 AMP
As we leave Proverbs chapter 9, we are given an contrasting view of the two options presented to mankind. In the beginning, we see God calling out for man to return home. The end of that choice is honor, and prosperity, and peace. In the verse above, the “foolish woman” is an allusion to the activity of sin. We are told that first sin is “noisy and restless.” A clearer picture of this present generation could not be painted! Those who are walking according to the desire of the flesh are filled with hate and anger. If you don’t accept their way you are the enemy! The word used here is the Hebrew word meaning “to be tumultuous, in an uproar, rage, unorderly, proclaim loudly in public, to be disturbed or in a state of anxiety and distress.” WOW! Can we say amen. As we have seen the ugly rage of sin cross our nation the past few years, we can clearly see that sin is at work. The sad part is that the participants are blind to the fact they are being used by Satan! It is also used to describe on who has become socially disobedient due to intoxication! Make no mistake about it, sin is intoxicating! Claiming to be the answer it is really the source of all the problems!
The picture painted by Solomon is one of an adulterous women playing on the physical desires of the naïve man. Her call is to come and enjoy the secret pleasures of her ways claiming that they will be fulfilling. Typical half-truth from Satan as always. God has given us desires and sensual pleasure, they are not wrong. What is wrong however, is the context in which they are experiences. Sexual experiences had in the context of God’s ways bring forth life. Sexual experiences in Satan’s way brings forth broken families, fatherless children, jealousies, fatal diseases, and even death! Verse 18 spells that out clearly.
“18But he does not know that the spirits of the dead are there, And that her guests are [already] in the depths of Sheol (the nether world, the place of the dead). “
Proverbs 9:18 AMP
We must remember that Jesus said,
“ am the Door; anyone who enters through Me will be saved [and will live forever], and will go in and out [freely], and find pasture (spiritual security). 10The thief comes only in order to steal and kill and destroy. I came that they may have life, and have it in abundance [to the full, till it overflows].” John 10:10 AMP
We must also remember that the enemy is constantly trying to get us to accept the ways of sin as normal and acceptable. The Apostle Peter warned us;
“For the time already past is [more than] enough for doing what the [unsaved] Gentiles like to do–[b]living [unrestrained as you have done] in a course of [shameless] sensuality, lusts, drunkenness, carousing, drinking parties, and wanton idolatries. 4In [connection with] all this, they [the unbelievers] are resentful and surprised that you do not [think like them, value their values and] run [hand in hand] with them into the same excesses of dissipation and immoral freedom, and they criticize and abuse and ridicule you and make fun of your values. 5But they will [have to] give an account to Him who is ready to judge and pass sentence on the living and the dead.”
