“Treasures of wickedness and ill-gotten gains do not profit, but righteousness and moral integrity in daily life rescues from death. 3The LORD will not allow the [a]righteous to hunger [God will meet all his needs], But He will reject and cast away the craving of the wicked.”
Proverbs 10:2-3 AMP
These two verses remind us that there is more to life than gaining treasure and putting out trust in anything other than God. Literally the word is “treasuries” in the above verse. It references a place of perceived security and trust. We might say it represents the vault or place of security the wicked think they have. The word wickedness is the word meaning to “do injustice with a focus on the violation of moral and civil law with evil deeds.” Nothing could be truer as we see the insane philosophies being touted as “normal moral behavior” by today’s radical agendas. Notice that it is the “cravings” of the wicked that are leading them astray. Living by their fleshly desires, they mock and ridicule the righteous thinking they are in a place of safety when judgement is about to be poured out on their unrighteousness. We read the following about their end,
“Can a throne of destruction be allied with You, One which frames and devises mischief by decree [under the sacred name of law]? 21They band themselves together against the life of the righteous And condemn the innocent to death. 22But the LORD has become my high tower and defense, And my God the rock of my refuge. 23He has turned back their own wickedness upon them And will destroy them by means of their own evil; The LORD our God will wipe them out.”
Psalms 94:20-23 AMP
The throne here represents a place of secure authority, a stronghold if you will. We often hear the term stronghold in the Scriptures. A stronghold is a place from which authority is exercised. It could be governmental, emotional, physical, or even spiritual in nature. It may look like an impenetrable fortress, but the good news is that through prayer, we can pull down the strongholds of the enemy! The Apostle Paul wrote,
“For though we walk in the flesh [as mortal men], we are not carrying on our [spiritual] warfare according to the flesh and using the weapons of man. 4The weapons of our warfare are not physical [weapons of flesh and blood]. Our weapons are divinely powerful for the destruction of fortresses. 5We are destroying sophisticated arguments and every exalted and proud thing that sets itself up against the [true] knowledge of God, and we are taking every thought and purpose captive to the obedience of Christ,”
2 Corinthians 10:3-5 AMP
The frailty of the wicked’s perceived place of strength is contrasted against the stability of the way of the Lord! Those who walk in righteousness and moral integrity will be rescued from death. You see, it is about living with an eternal perspective. We are reminded that the Lord will not let our needs go unmet. The Scripture tells us that it is in God’s place of protection that the enemy cannot reach!
“The name of the LORD is a strong tower; The righteous runs to it and is safe and set on high [far above evil].”
Proverbs 18:10 AMP
The Scripture does not say that it will be an easy walk. In fact, Jesus talked about the persecution that the believer would undergo but promised not to leave us as orphans in our time of need but that He would be with us, even unto the end of days!
