A Good Name

“Blessings are on the head of the righteous [the upright, those in right standing with God], But the mouth of the wicked conceals violence. 7The memory of the righteous [person] is a [source of] blessing, But the name of the wicked will [be forgotten and] rot [like a corpse].”

Proverbs 10:6-7 AMP

In a day and age where we watch unrighteousness flourish, we are reminded that thru honor and blessings reside not with the wicked but the righteous! The verse proclaims that “blessings are on the head of the righteous.” I love the word blessing here as it speaks of “the result of a covenant based in surrender resulting in a substantially better circumstance when the option mis annihilation.” I could not think of a better way to describe the result of salvation through the sacrifice of Christ! We were facing annihilation, but He took the penalty and gave us forgiveness and new life. A substantially better condition than before! Notice that the verse says that it is “those who are in right standing with God.” I love that! Not perfect but forgiven! I am reminded of the second letter to the Corinthians from the Apostle Paul.

“but He (God) has said to me, “My grace is sufficient for you [My lovingkindness and My mercy are more than enough–always available–regardless of the situation]; for [My] power is being perfected [and is completed and shows itself most effectively] in [your] weakness.” Therefore, I will all the more gladly boast in my weaknesses, so that the power of Christ [may completely enfold me and] may dwell in me.”

2 Corinthians 12:9 AMP

The contrast to that. Is the “mouth of the wicked.” The activity of the wicked is to conceal or cover the intention of their motive. The word violence says it all. The Hebrew here is the word to describe a “strong, fierce, destructive force resulting in acts that maim, destroy, kill, often implying a lawless terror and a lack of moral restraint.” (Dictionary of Biblical Languages: Hebrew) WOW! Could we see a more concise picture of the evil parading in our streets today? We see that in the end times Satan will speak blasphemous thigs again against God and His people.

“And he opened his mouth to speak blasphemies (abusive speech, slander) against God, to blaspheme His name and His tabernacle, and those who live in heaven.”

Revelation 13:6 AMP

We see a small portion of that activity now, but it is growing as the days get darker and darker. The good news is that in the end those mouth will be silenced as we know that,

“For it is written [in Scripture], “AS I LIVE, SAYS THE LORD, EVERY KNEE SHALL BOW TO ME, AND EVERY TONGUE SHALL GIVE PRAISE TO GOD.”

Romans 14:11 AMP

Both the just and the wicked, when their days are fulfilled, will die. How they will be remembered however will be vastly different. The legacy that you leave behind will either be for the encouragement of others or a stain on the history of mankind. Solomon wrote in the book of Ecclesiastes,

“A good name is better than fine perfume, and the day of one’s death is better than the day of one’s birth.”

Ecclesiastes 7:1 AMP

Wicked men area and shall be forgotten or spoken of with contempt. When their bodies are rotting in the grave, so also shall their name rot with them! Let me ask you today, what is the legacy that you are leaving behind? Let me leave you with this advice,

“But as for you, O man of God, flee from these things; aim at and pursue righteousness [true goodness, moral conformity to the character of God], godliness [the fear of God], faith, love, steadfastness, and gentleness.”

1 Timothy 6:11 AMP

Have a blessed day, Pastor Ken
