Gain or Pain?

“On the lips of the discerning, [skillful and godly] wisdom is found, But discipline and the rod are for the back of the one who is without common sense and understanding. 14Wise men store up and treasure knowledge [in mind and heart], But with the mouth of the foolish, ruin is at hand.

Proverbs 10:13-14 AMP

Today we find a contrast of the results of the wise and the foolish. One of the key words in verse 13 is the word “found.” The Hebrew here means to “learn the location of a hidden object.” It implies that there is an active pursuit to find the lost object. When man fell from the garden, sin entered his life and began to obscure the truth about his creator! Psalms 53 tells us,

“The [empty-headed] fool has said in his heart, “There is no God.” They are corrupt and evil, and have committed repulsive injustice; There is no one who does good. 2God has looked down from heaven upon the children of men To see if there is anyone who understands, Who seeks after God [who requires Him, who longs for Him as essential to life]. 3Every one of them has turned aside and fallen away; Together they have become filthy and corrupt; There is no one who does good, no, not even one. 4Have workers of wickedness no knowledge or no understanding? They eat up My people as though they ate bread And have not called upon God.”

Psalms 53:1-4 AMP

Notice that the charge is that understanding in verse 2 is connected to those “Who seeks after God [who requires Him, who longs for Him as essential to life].” The search for true wisdom is connected to the “essential” for living rightly. We are told that the activity of those who do not desire to live rightly will, “eat up My people as though they ate bread And have not called upon God.” WOW! That is certainly a clear picture of those today who claim to be wise in their support of hedonistic, perverted ways of living. They must persecute the one who stands for the real truth because it reminds them of the errant ways. There is an interesting verse in the Gospel of Mathew. Jesus begins talking about the generation of those who reject Him.

“But to what shall I compare this generation? It is like little children sitting in the market places, who call to the others, 17and say ‘We piped the flute for you [playing wedding], and you did not dance; we wailed sad dirges [playing funeral], and you did not mourn and cry aloud.’ 18For John came neither eating nor drinking [with others], and they say, ‘He has a demon!’ 19The Son of Man came eating and drinking [with others], and they say, ‘Look! A glutton and a drunkard, a friend of tax collectors and sinners [including non-observant Jews]!’ Yet wisdom is justified and vindicated by her deeds [in the lives of those who respond to Me].”

Matthew 11:16-19 AMP

Do you see it? “Wisdom is justified and vindicated by her deeds.” If the wisdom of this age was pure and true, the results would be quite different. Instead, we have wars, corruption, abortion, hate, anger, disunity, sexual diseases with no cure, etc. Clearly here wisdom is the result of responding to Christ! Notice that verse 14 tells us the [lace from which wisdom operates, “14Wise men store up and treasure knowledge [in mind and heart],…” When confronting the religious naysayers, Jesus said,

“You brood of vipers, how can you speak good things when you are evil? For the mouth speaks out of that which fills the heart.”

Mathew 12:34 AMP

The issue is a matter of the heart! The only remedy I know for a broken heart and mind is the blood of Jesus Christ! It, and only it alone can heal the blindness that sin has over the soul of man today!

Are you filling your heart with truth of His Word? Are you walking it the wisdom fo the cross today? With the celebration of the victory of Christ over sin rapidly approaching, ask yourself if you are truly allowing the Holy Spirit to transform you into the image of Christ that those who see you will give honor to God in heaven! Have a blessed day, Pastor Ken
