“When pride comes [boiling up with an arrogant attitude of self-importance], then come dishonor and shame, But with the humble [the teachable who have been chiseled by trial and who have learned to walk humbly with God] there is wisdom and soundness of mind.”
Proverbs 11:2 AMP
Strong words of warning for us today! Pride is a high or inordinate opinion of oneself that we are more important than others. The Hebrew word here means exactly that. It is defined as “the concept of an inflated view of oneself, being self-willed and humble.” It is particularly concerned with moral failure. Remember Proverbs chapter 8 verse 13”
“All who fear the LORD will hate evil. Therefore, I hate pride and arrogance, corruption, and perverse speech”
Proverbs 8:13 NLT
The Pride movement of today fits this description to a “T”! It is an arrogant attitude of self-importance at the expense of others. It even goes to the extreme to cement its existence in the laws of the land terrorizing the righteous thinking that it will perpetuate their cause. The Scripture though tells us a different story.
“You have been deceived by the fear you inspire in others and by your own pride. You live in a rock fortress and control the mountain heights. But even if you make your nest among the peaks with the eagles, I will bring you crashing down,” says the LORD.”
Jerimiah 49:16 NLT
Satan knows that his time is coming. He is pulling out all the stops to try and derail the work of God in humanity today. It has gotten to the point that the righteous are fearing to speak the truth in love facing severe consequences from those who purport to be loving and accepting of others! I have good news for you today. Jesus told His disciples (which includes us)
“And I say to you that you are Peter, and on this rock I will build My church; and the gates of Hades (death) will not overpower it [by preventing the resurrection of the Christ]”
Matthew 16:18 AMP
What a wonderful promise for the believer! You see, Jesus was not implying that the church would be built on Peter, what He was saying is that it would be built on Peter’s confession that Jesus was “the Christ, the Messiah!” There was no power in Peter over death as we know he suffered death for his stand for Christ. Jesus however, defeated death and took the keys of death from our enemy, the Devil! The book of Hebrews tells us,
“Therefore, since [these His] children share in flesh and blood [the physical nature of mankind], He Himself in a similar manner also shared in the same [physical nature, but without sin], so that through [experiencing] death He might make powerless (ineffective, impotent) him who had the power of death–that is, the devil– 15and [that He] might free all those who through [the haunting] fear of death were held in slavery throughout their lives.”
Hebrews 2:14-15 AMP
As we approach Easter Sunday, we should not forget about that terrible moment when the sins of man were poured out upon our Savior. Let us then walk humbly with our God for the joy set before Him He endured the cross for us!
Have a blessed day, Pastor Ken
