Seeking God’s Council

“Where there is no [wise, intelligent] guidance, the people fall [and go off course like a ship without a helm], But in the abundance of [wise and godly] counselors there is victory.”

Proverbs 11:14 AMP

We hear so much today about leadership and its implementation; the Scriptures give us a clear description of what true leadership should look like. The words leadership and guidance are closely related. Leadership is the ability of an individual or group of people to influence and GUIDE followers or members of an organization, society, or team. Guidance however is the ability to show the way! The Hebrew word guidance is from the root word advice, specifically in relation to God’s plan or decision about a matter. The root word also means “to steer.” In a rebuke to the people for rejecting His ways, God speaks to the nation in the book of Deuteronomy,

““For I proclaim the name [and presence] of the LORD; Ascribe greatness and honor to our God! 4“The Rock! His work is perfect, For all His ways are just; A God of faithfulness without iniquity (injustice), Just and upright is He. 5“They (Israel) have acted corruptly toward Him. They are not His children, because of their [moral] defect; But are a perverse and crooked generation.”

Deuteronomy 32:3-5 AMP

Look at verses 4&5 as they describe God and His ways. We see the words greatness, honor, rock, perfect, just, faithful, without iniquity, and upright. That is contrasted against the description of the people, corrupt, moral defect, perverse, and crooked. We see the fulfilment of the open verse, “the people fall and go off course like a ship without a helm…” The description of the godless doesn’t get any better and shows us the root of the conditions we see today about the gender confusion being preached from our schools.

““For their vine is from the vine of Sodom, And from the fields of Gomorrah; Their grapes are grapes of poison, Their clusters, bitter. 33“Their wine is the venom of serpents, And the deadly poison of vipers.”

Deuteronomy 32:32-33 AMP

God’s desire is the bless not destroy. He is the God or restoration and creation. There is however the principal of “whatsoever so sow, that you will reap.” Because God is gracious and allows us to make our choices, we many times bring upon ourselves the just deserves of our actions. He though, desires us to recognize and respond to the truth of His Word.

“For they are a nation devoid of counsel, And there is no understanding in them. 29“O that they were wise, that they understood this, That they could discern their future and ultimate fate!”

Deuteronomy 32:28-29 AMP

The good news is that God has provided men and women of integrity to be the guiding voice amid the chaos! The second part of our opening Scripture tells us that there is a chance of victory if we would pay attention to the voice of reason. The word “councilor” is the Hebrew word describing someone who “speaks and urges certain directions of actions and thought, implying that the advice given is considered wise and valuable.” We have been given such a councilor, Jesus!

“For to us a Child shall be born, to us a Son shall be given; And the government shall be upon His shoulder, And His name shall be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.”

Isaiah 9:6 AMP

If we truly want victory over this mess in our cities and countries, we must come to the “wonderful councilor” for leadership and guidance! Let me encourage you today to be the light of truth and to stand for righteousness. Yes, there is a battle, but we have been given weapons of warfare for the tearing down of the enemies strongholds! Have a blessed day, Pastor Ken
