One Truth?

“An honest witness tells the truth; a false witness tells lies.”

Proverbs 12-17 NLT

We hear a lot today about accountability of those who are posting to social media. Even major media companies have whole departments now that are trying to filter out the lies and get at the truth. Our verse today makes it perfectly clear, “an honest witness tells the truth.” In days gone by a witness in the courtroom was required to place his or her hand on the Bible and “swear” to tell the truth, the whole truth, and nothing but the truth, so help you God!” It was to acknowledge that the oath taker had a solemn belief that if they lied, the judgement of God would come upon them. It acknowledged that God does in fact see all things and can bear witness to the truth. Since man has now removed God from his conscience, it is no longer required to swear an oath attested to by God but rather according to one’s own belief and words. The problem is that man is corrupt by nature and seeks only his own good and fulfilment! As much as man today would like to believe that there is more than one truth, the reality is that there can only be one truth. It is readily accepted today that truth is fluid and ever-changing. Even Friedrich Nietzsche, a secular philosopher warned of this fallacy on “On Truth and Lies in Normal Sense; “the reason people have different point of views, he states is that human beings believe anything that has no consequences and is repeated more than once.”

Notice that he said, “different points of view.” This is the problem. Man has eliminated God because he desires to live his life without the reality of consequences for his own behavior. The book of John tells us that,

“All things were made and came into existence through Him; and without Him not even one thing was made that has come into being. 4In Him was life [and the power to bestow life], and the life was the Light of men. 5The Light shines on in the darkness, and the darkness did not understand it or overpower it or appropriate it or absorb it [and is unreceptive to it].”

John 1:3-5 AMP

Man was living in the darkness of his sin and when the light began to expose it, they yelled, “Turn out the lights.” We see the same thing happening around the world today. Man is crying out too “turn off the lights” so his sin can continue. The latest attack on gender and sexuality is a perfect example. They want to live a life of sin without consequences. That my friends is impossible! Man’s attempt to legitimize his sin by forcing society to accept it will only lead to further deterioration of society until it comes apart at the seams! In an attempt to find freedom, Satan has blinded their minds to believe the lie! True freedom can only be found in Christ! Jesus told us,

31So Jesus was saying to the Jews who had believed Him, “If you abide in My word [continually obeying My teachings and living in accordance with them, then] you are truly My disciples. 32And you will know the truth [regarding salvation], and the truth will set you free [from the penalty of sin].”

John 8:31-32 AMP

Do you see it? Abiding in God’s Word and obeying it will bring the true and lasting freedom that man is seeking! The Apostle Paul wrote to the church at Rome,

“Therefore there is now no condemnation [no guilty verdict, no punishment] for those who are in Christ Jesus [who believe in Him as personal Lord and Savior]. 2For the law of the Spirit of life [which is] in Christ Jesus [the law of our new being] has set you free from the law of sin and of death.3For what the Law could not do [that is, overcome sin and remove its penalty, its power] being weakened by the flesh [man’s nature without the Holy Spirit], God did: He sent His own Son in the likeness of sinful man as an offering for sin. And He condemned sin in the flesh [subdued it and overcame it in the person of His own Son], 4so that the [righteous and just] requirement of the Law might be fulfilled in us who do not live our lives in the ways of the flesh [guided by worldliness and our sinful nature], but [live our lives] in the ways of the Spirit [guided by His power].

Romans 8:1-4 AMP

God from the beginning has told us the truth about our life and the way we should live. If we receive that, and act upon it, then there is no condemnation, and the law of our new beginning will set us free!

Have a blessed day, Pastor Ken
