“In the mouth of the [arrogant] fool [who rejects God] is a rod for his back, But the lips of the wise [when they speak with godly wisdom] will protect them.”
Proverbs 14:5 AMP
Our verse today discusses the things that come out of our mouth. I want to identify the description of the arrogant; one who rejects God. In His letter to the church at Rome, the Apostle Paul wrote about people with this type of attitude.
“And since they did not see fit to acknowledge God or consider Him worth knowing [as their Creator], God gave them over to a depraved mind, to do things which are improper and repulsive, 29until they were filled (permeated, saturated) with every kind of unrighteousness, wickedness, greed, evil; full of envy, murder, strife, deceit, malice and mean-spiritedness. They are gossips [spreading rumors], 30slanderers, haters of God, insolent, arrogant, boastful, inventors [of new forms] of evil, disobedient and disrespectful to parents, 31without understanding, untrustworthy, unloving, unmerciful [without pity]. 32Although they know God’s righteous decree and His judgment, that those who do such things deserve death, yet they not only do them, but they even [enthusiastically] approve and tolerate others who practice them.”
Romans 1:28-32 AMP
WOW! Could we have a more accurate description of what we see going on in the world today? This really isn’t something new! The word arrogant in the Greek is the word meaning one who “violently acts in spite of divine or human law.” Do you see it? To do something In spite of is far different than doing in despite of! In despite means to do something even though it may have been prevented. In spite of means the action can from an intentional desire to do it! It is all about the intention of the action. Notice that in the verse from Romans that it clearly says, “And since they did not see fit to acknowledge God or consider Him worth knowing as their Creator…” they purposefully set out to do these things; “32Although they know God’s righteous decree and His judgment, that those who do such things deserve death, yet they not only do them, but they even [enthusiastically] approve and tolerate others who practice them.” The result of this activity brought then the consequences of their actions.
Now, we know that the Scripture tells us that,
“The [intrinsically] good man produces what is good and honorable and moral out of the good treasure [stored] in his heart; and the [intrinsically] evil man produces what is wicked and depraved out of the evil [in his heart]; for his mouth speaks from the overflow of his heart.” Luke 6:45 AMP
Do you see it? What comes from the mouth and the actions of life originate in the heart! That is why we are told,
“Your word I have treasured and stored in my heart, That I may not sin against You.”
Psalms 119:11 AMP
The verse today tells us that the very evil that comes from a depraved heart will ultimately be the mechanism for a person’s destruction. James warned of this very issue,
“But each one is tempted when he is dragged away, enticed and baited [to commit sin] by his own [worldly] desire (lust, passion). 15Then when the illicit desire has conceived, it gives birth to sin; and when sin has run its course, it gives birth to death. 16Do not be misled, my beloved brothers and sisters.”
James 1: 14-16 AMP
Remember to speak Godly wisdom and put it into action in your life. Many know the Word of God, but they have chosen not to “do” the Word of God. The promise of the verse today is that if we walk in Godly wisdom and behavior, we will be protected!
Have a blessed day walking in the ways of the Lord! Pastor Ken
