I Surrender All

A scoffer seeks wisdom and finds none [for his ears are closed to wisdom], But knowledge is easy for one who understands [because he is willing to learn].”

Proverbs 14:6 AMP

Discipleship is part of the growing Christian life. Once we embrace Christ, a transformational process takes place as Christ embraces us! We come from a place of self-centeredness and pride which needs to be broken down as we are conformed to the image of Christ in our lives. Today we are warned about the attitude of the scoffer. The word scoffer here one who “speaks words which show no respect for the object, and make fun of the object, with a possible focus of speaking confidently and authoritatively in the situation but having no wisdom! Psalms 119 says,

“Remember [always] the word and promise to Your servant, In which You have made me hope. 50This is my comfort in my affliction, That Your word has revived me and given me life. 51The arrogant utterly ridicule me, Yet I do not turn away from Your law.”

Psalms 119:50-51 AMP

Notice the word arrogant. It is from the same root word as scoffer! The word is used to describe someone who is “insolent, self-willed and not humble as a moral defect.” WOW! That is the exact place we came from before the cross. Many today never make it to the new life because of their self-willed and prideful attitude.  This verse tells us that having that kind of attitude is equivalent to “moral failure.” It isn’t any wonder then that those lost in sin are trying to silence the Word of God. The Scriptures are brutally honest when it comes to describing the position of rebellious man. Remember what the Scripture says about what God thinks in regards to this kind of attitude?

“These six things the LORD hates; Indeed, seven are repulsive to Him: 17A proud look [the attitude that makes one overestimate oneself and discount others], a lying tongue, And hands that shed innocent blood, 18A heart that creates wicked plans, Feet that run swiftly to evil, 19A false witness who breathes out lies [even half-truths], And one who spreads discord (rumors) among brothers.

Proverbs 6:16-19 AMP

This is what is so dangerous about the pride movement. The Scripture isn’t only talking about the sexual issues here, it is a warning about the pride of man in all of his ways! It is a clear warning from God that,

“When pride comes [boiling up with an arrogant attitude of self-importance], then come dishonor and shame, But with the humble [the teachable who have been chiseled by trial and who have learned to walk humbly with God] there is wisdom and soundness of mind.”

Proverbs 11:2 AMP

Do you see it? “…But the humble (the teachable who have been chiseled by trail and who have learned to walk humbly with God…” That should be the goal of every Christian today. The whole “you deserve it” attitude today is ultimately leading to a destruction of the fabric of society. I love the ending of this verse, “But knowledge is easy for one who understands [because he is willing to learn].” Learning is the process of understanding the facts and responding in accordance. In medicine this every so critical. One cannot just ignore the processes of the body and treat someone any way they believe is correct! There is only one truth about how cells operate and if you violate that, death ensues. You can’t just make up your own belief system and expect reality to bend to your perception!

Let me encourage you today to surrender to the One who made you! God’s only desire is that you be freed from the power of sin and death. He has done everything to make the way possible now it is up to you. I remember the words of Joshua, “Chose you this day whom you will serve. As for me and my house, we will serve the Lord!” Have a humble day! Pastor Ken
