“The tongue of the wise speaks knowledge that is pleasing and acceptable, But the [babbling] mouth of fools spouts folly.”
Proverbs 15:2 AMP
In our Scripture today we find again a reference to the wise and the understanding of morality. The word wise here is defined as “one who has a capacity for understanding and discernment.” It was the word used to describe a craftsman that had perfected his trade. It was also used to describe then someone who has a “fear of the Lord and a capacity for understanding that leads to a blessed and prosperous life!” It is from the root word meaning “to have a capacity to understand and so have skill in living, implying an adherence to God’s standards.” In the book of Isaiah we are told,
“Incline your ear [to listen] and come to Me; Hear, so that your soul may live; And I will make an everlasting covenant with you, According to the faithful mercies [promised and] shown to David.”
Isaiah 55:3 AMP
Here we are commanded to incline our ear or more literally, broaden our ability to hear God’s Word!. The result of that practice…your soul may live. The understanding and application of the Word of God in our lives always results in the preservation of our life! The word here means to “make alive again!” Before we surrendered to Christ we were as the Scripture tells us, “Dead in our trespasses.” There was no hope, no way out of the prison that Satan had trapped us in. The book of John clearly states the source of our life should be Christ.
“In the beginning [before all time] was the Word ([a]Christ), and the Word was with God, and [b]the Word was God Himself.2He was [continually existing] in the beginning [co-eternally] with God. 3All things were made and came into existence through Him; and without Him not even one thing was made that has come into being. 4In Him was life [and the power to bestow life], and the life was the Light of men. 5The Light shines on in the [c]darkness, and the darkness did not understand it or overpower it or appropriate it or absorb it [and is unreceptive to it].”
John 1:1-5 AMP
Herein lies the problem. The One who is the source of life is rejected by those who need it most. Once that rejection is made, man must then develop his own standards and excuses by which he justifies his sin. Hence, the remainder of our verse today. The one who rejects God’s Word is like a fool spurting forth folly. The word folly means “a state of being devoid of wisdom and understanding with a focus on evil behaviors which are a result of this condition.” WOW! We clearly see that in motion today as man tries rewrite the reality of facts to fit his own narrative. Remember this verse?
“There is a way which seems right to a man and appears straight before him, But its end is the way of death.”
Proverbs 14:13 AMP
The reality of truth can never be escaped. It can never be altered, and it can never be changed. Oh yes, one can ignore reality and live in a dream world but eventually the reality of truth will meet the deception of lies! So dangerous is the life of the foolish that the Scripture tells us that,
“Let a man meet a [ferocious] bear robbed of her cubs Rather than the [angry, narcissistic] fool in his folly.”
Proverbs 17:12 AMP
It is amazing to me that the Scripture clearly describes our current time. When we watch the videos of those opposed to the ways of God protesting, we see the anger and the fury of their determination to rid themselves of this constraining God!
My friends, God has given us His Word so that we may have life and not experience death. He has also given us His Word to guide through these turbulent times and keep us hidden in the shelter of His wings! Let your life show forth the glory of God and your words be filled with truth and love! Have a blessed day, Pastor Ken
