Revealing Words

“The lips of the wise spread knowledge [sifting it as chaff from the grain]; But the hearts of [shortsighted] fools are not so.”

Proverbs 15:7 AMP

Today we are again challenged to think about what is coming from our lips! The structure of this sentence is quite interesting! Seeing the word “lips” we immediately think about the process of speech. The word literally means “the point from which thoughts are translated to understandable communications.” The lips are not the source of the communication but rather the point at which the intentions of the heart are released! The Bible is clear,

“Either make the tree good and its fruit good, or make the tree bad and its fruit bad; for the tree is recognized and judged by its fruit. 34You brood of vipers, how can you speak good things when you are evil? For the mouth speaks out of that which fills the heart35The good man, from his [inner] good treasure, brings out good things; and the evil man, from his [inner] evil treasure, brings out evil things. 36But I tell you, on the day of judgment people will have to give an accounting for every careless or useless word they speak. 37For by your words [reflecting your spiritual condition] you will be justified and acquitted of the guilt of sin; and by your words [rejecting Me] you will be condemned and sentenced.”

Matthew 12:33-37 AMP

The mouth speaks that which is in the heart! Now, notice the word “spread.” This word cannot stand alone in a sentence. The declension of the word indicates that it must point to something that is being spread. It is impossible to translate the word without indicating what is being preached! Generally speaking, it is used to describe the public proclamation of religious truth.  In this case, it is hanging on the word “knowledge.” The wise man speaks the truths of God’s Word and proclaims the good news of the Gospel of Jesus Christ. The wise always seeks to understand the reality of a matter and then conforms his or her life to the truth. Remember that Jesus said,

“So Jesus was saying to the Jews who had believed Him, “If you abide in My word [continually obeying My teachings and living in accordance with them, then] you are truly My disciples. 32And you will know the truth [regarding salvation], and the truth will set you free [from the penalty of sin].”

John 8:31-32 AMP

Notice that the wise will adhere to the words of God and live in accordance of them! Knowing the truth is the only way to disclose the veil of our enemies’ tactics. The Bible is clear that he is roaming about seeking whom he will devour!  Notice that in our verse today we see the activity of the wise; “…sifting it as chaff from the grain.” We are to be activity involved n the process of seeking truth. Unfortunately, today we see the opposite. The world doesn’t want to know the truth for then they will be accountable to it! I always say, “truth makes on accountable for knowledge.” People today want to create their own truth which will then support their evil ways.

As I look back at my own initial encounter with God, I remember that it was the realization of the truth that I was addicted to the drugs and about die. I remember crying out to God, “If you don’t fix me, I am going to die, Your Word says that the blood of Jesus applied to the bondage of my sin will set me free. If that is the case, You need to do something because I am at the end of my days!” That night as I cried myself to sleep, God moved and made good on HIS truth. God has not revealed truth to us to harm us but rather to protect us from the traps of the enemy. Yes, there are times I do not understand but I obey! I had been living my life as the fool. A fool is one who is lacking complete understanding. They know the truth but chose to ignore it! The Hebrew describe them as “walking in stupidity, and insolence with a complete rebellion to the truth.” So our verse ends reminding us that those who walk in the foolishness of their minds cannot bring forth understandable truth!

Have a blessed day, Pastor Ken
