He Will Lift You Up

“The LORD will tear down the house of the proud and arrogant (self-righteous),

But He will establish and protect the boundaries [of the land] of the [godly] widow.”

Proverbs 15:25 AMP

Our verse today strikes right at the issues of the heart. King Solomon reminds us of the dangers of pride and arrogance! First to note is the Hebrew word translated pride. The word means, “one who walks in undue arrogance as in continual moral failure; pertaining to being arrogant as the result of self-will and stubbornness.” It is the arrogance that rises up against the knowledge and will of God! We are warned about the dangers of pride and the slippery sloop that it offers! Do you remember Proverbs chapter 6?

“These six things the LORD hates; Indeed, seven are repulsive to Him: 17A proud look [the attitude that makes one overestimate oneself and discount others], a lying tongue, And hands that shed innocent blood, 18A heart that creates wicked plans, Feet that run swiftly to evil, 19A false witness who breathes out lies [even half-truths], And one who spreads discord (rumors) among brothers.”

Proverbs 6:16-19 AMP

Notice that at the core of the issue is a person who thinks of oneself first with an attitude of superiority. The New Testament commands us,

“For by the grace [of God] given to me I say to everyone of you not to think more highly of himself [and of his importance and ability] than he ought to think; but to think so as to have sound judgment, as God has apportioned to each a degree of faith [and a purpose designed for service].”

Romans 12:3 AMP

In the book of Isaiah we read,

“The proud look of man will be degraded And the arrogance of men will be humbled, And the LORD alone will be exalted in that day.12For the LORD of hosts will have a day of reckoning Against all who are proud and arrogant And against all who are lifted up, That they may be degraded.

Clearly, we need to sound the alarm to this generation of arrogant, self-willed people who hold the Word of God in contempt! Remember that it is not them that the battle is against but rather the one who has blinded their eyes so they cannot see or reason sensibly. Remember that the Word of God tells us,

“But He gives us more and more grace [through the power of the Holy Spirit to defy sin and live an obedient life that reflects both our faith and our gratitude for our salvation]. Therefore, it says, “GOD IS OPPOSED TO THE PROUD and HAUGHTY, BUT [continually] GIVES [the gift of] GRACE TO THE HUMBLE [who turn away from self-righteousness].” 7So submit to [the authority of] God. Resist the devil [stand firm against him] and he will flee from you. 8Come close to God [with a contrite heart] and He will come close to you. Wash your hands, you sinners; and purify your [unfaithful] hearts, you double-minded [people]. 9Be miserable and grieve and weep [over your sin]. Let your [foolish] laughter be turned to mourning and your [reckless] joy to gloom. 10Humble yourselves [with an attitude of repentance and insignificance] in the presence of the Lord, and He will exalt you [He will lift you up, He will give you purpose].

Hebrews 4: 6-10 AMP

The promise of God is to “lift up” the humble. Our verse today tells us that God will “establish” their way! The word here means to “stand up, endure, to be permanently fixed or to stay fixed.” I am reminded of one of my favorite verses in the Bible,

“This is why I suffer as I do. Still, I am not ashamed; for I know Him [and I am personally acquainted with Him] whom I have believed [with absolute trust and confidence in Him and in the truth of His deity], and I am persuaded [beyond any doubt] that He is able to guard that which I have entrusted to Him until that day [when I stand before Him].

2 Timothy 1 :12 AMP

We have committed our lives to Him and He is able to keep us throughout our journey here on earth! Humble yourself today and He will lift you up and establish your way! Have a blessed day, Pastor Ken
