“The LORD will tear down the house of the proud and arrogant (self-righteous), But He will establish and protect the boundaries [of the land] of the [godly] widow.”
Proverbs 15:25 AMP
Our verse today warns us of the dangers of pride and arrogance. The word in the Hebrew here is the word meaning “one who has an undue arrogance, is proud, haughty, and in moral failure!” Remember the verse in the book of Isaiah as God is warning the people of how their pride, arrogance, and self-willed rebellion will end?
“For the LORD of hosts will have a day of reckoning Against all who are proud and arrogant And against all who are lifted up, That they may be degraded.” Isiah 2:12 AMP
It sems like no one is considering that God is still concerned about the behavior of men! A recently released book entitled “Conversations with God” which purposes to lead children away from the true word of God. I am reminded of a verse in the book of Malachi,
“Your words have been harsh against Me,” says the LORD. “But you say, ‘What have we spoken against You?’ 14You have said, ‘It is useless to serve God. What profit is it if we keep His ordinances, and walk around like mourners before the LORD of hosts? 15So now we call the arrogant happy and blessed. Evildoers are exalted and prosper; and when they test God, they escape [unpunished].’”
Malachi 3:13 AMP
Ever since the first days of rebellion, man has sought to do it his way. Our verse today reminds us that,
“There is a way which seems right to a man and appears straight before him, But its end is the way of death.”
Proverbs 14:12 AMP
When we read verses like this, the first reaction is that God just wants to bring judgement upon rebellious man. Nothing could be further from the truth! We know that,
“The Lord does not delay [as though He were unable to act] and is not slow about His promise, as some count slowness, but is [extraordinarily] patient toward you, not wishing for any to perish but for all to come to repentance.”
2 Peter 3:9 AMP
The verse goes on to tell us that God will “establish and protect” the Goldy widow. The word widow here is the word for a person of “low status, meager means, and so in need of special efforts to take care of them.” Those who rely upon the Lord are exactly that! Man had a special need that required a special effort to take care of it. Jesus took to the cross because there was no way for man to fix the problem. The word established here means to “make solid, come into being, to stay or to be fixed.” Clearly this is a description of the salvation that has been given to us through Christ. You should immediately think about the message Jesus gave to the crowd.
“Everyone who comes to Me and listens to My words and obeys them, I will show you whom he is like: 48he is like a [far-sighted, practical, and sensible] man building a house, who dug deep and laid a foundation on the rock; and when a flood occurred, the torrent burst against that house and yet could not shake it, because it had been securely built and founded on the rock. 49But the one who has [merely] heard and has not practiced [what I say], is like a [foolish] man who built a house on the ground without any foundation, and the torrent burst against it; and it immediately collapsed, and the ruin of that house was great.”
Luke 6:47-49 AMP
God’s desire is to bless and encourage us and He has given us everything regarding righteous living. We are the ones who make the decision to walk in His ways or reject them unto our own demise! Have a blessed day. Pastor Ken
