“Evil plans and thoughts of the wicked are exceedingly vile and offensive to the LORD, But pure words are pleasant words to Him.”
Proverbs 15:26 AMP
We continue today with an extension of verse 25. Verse 25 spoke about the dangers of pride and the self-willed direction of life rejecting God’s Word. We have seen continually that the motivations of life and action come from what is the heart of a person. Today we are told that those thoughts are “exceedingly vile and offensive to the Lord.” Notice that the concern of this verse is what the Lord thinks about those thoughts, not other men! The word translated plans and thoughts here is the word meaning to “contemplate, thinking, scheming, a plan to bring about a certain desire.” The book of Micah warns us that,
“Woe (judgment is coming) to those who devise wickedness And plot evil on their beds! When morning comes, they practice evil Because it is in the power of their hands.”
Micah 2:1 AMP
The word “wickedness” is the Hebrew word meaning to “that which is morally impure; an action or activity that hinders or severs a relationship; that which is undesirable and of no value.” I can’t think of a better definition of sin that that! God created man for fellowship! We read that God walked with them in the garden. Can you imagine? Face-to-face fellowship with the Creator! Sin however destroyed that relation and brought about that which is undesirable! Sin is exceedingly vile before the Lord and cannot stand!
The words translated vile, and offensive is the word abomination. It is the word meaning “a detestable thing, way, or practice as a lifestyle; an item to be rejected.” We are called to reject the way of sin in our lives. The Scripture is clear that,
“Do not go on offering members of your body to sin as instruments of wickedness. But offer yourselves to God [in a decisive act] as those alive [raised] from the dead [to a new life], and your members [all of your abilities—sanctified, set apart] as instruments of righteousness [yielded] to God.” Romans 6:13 AMP
The book of Titus tells us,
“For the [remarkable, undeserved] grace of God that [a]brings salvation has appeared to all men. 12It teaches us to reject ungodliness and worldly (immoral) desires, and to live sensible, upright, and godly lives [with a purpose that reflect spiritual maturity] in this present age, 13awaiting and confidently expecting the [fulfillment of our] blessed hope and the glorious appearing of our great God and Savior, Christ Jesus, 14who [willingly] gave Himself [to be crucified] on our behalf to redeem us and purchase our freedom from all wickedness, and to purify for Himself a chosen and very special people to be His own possession, who are enthusiastic for doing what is good.
Titus 2:11-14 AMP
God desire that we are growing in the grace that gave us our freedom. Each and every day I should be a bit more conformed to the image of Christ in my life. The end of the verse talks about the “pure” words. The word here means “that which is acceptable and favorable to one.” God’s Word is our guide to keeping our relationship in tact with the Master. As Satan tries to convince those lost in sin that God’s way is not profitable, we must hold fast to that which is good and toss out the rest! Have a blessed day.
