“Understanding (spiritual insight) is a [refreshing and boundless] wellspring of life to those who have it, But to give instruction and correction to fools is foolishness.” 

Proverbs 16:22 AMP

Today we are reminded of the benefits of having Spiritual insight. One of the greatest gifts this side of the cross is that we can see the truth for what it really is! We are told that those who are rejecting the truth are “spiritually blind.” The spiritually blind hear the truth, but they cannot see what it means. They cannot see the “big picture” of salvation, and they are unable to see how it applies in their own life. They have trouble confessing the truth because they have difficulty believing what they cannot see. Jesus told us that,

“And I will ask the Father, and He will give you another [c]Helper (Comforter, Advocate, Intercessor–Counselor, Strengthener, Standby), to be with you forever– 17the Spirit of Truth, whom the world cannot receive [and take to its heart] because it does not see Him or know Him, but you know Him because He (the Holy Spirit) remains with you continually and will be in you.”

John 14:17 AMP

Many today never realize the ministry of the Holy Spirit in their lives. The Holy Spirit has been charged to reveal truth to us while we walk this earth. Did you ever see something on TV and say, “that is from the devil?” Or did a cringe flow down your spine when you heard say something blasphemous against God? That is the Holy Spirit confirming to you that it not the truth! The reality is that the person without the Spirit of God cannot accept His truth! The Apostle Paul wrote,

“But the natural [unbelieving] man does not accept the things [the teachings and revelations] of the Spirit of God, for they are foolishness [absurd and illogical] to him; and he is incapable of understanding them, because they are spiritually discerned and appreciated, [and he is unqualified to judge spiritual matters].”

1 Corinthians 2:14 AMP

In his letter to the Thessalonians, Paul speaks a hard reality about those rejecting God.

“For the mystery of lawlessness [rebellion against divine authority and the coming reign of lawlessness] is already at work; [but it is restrained] only until he who now restrains it is taken out of the way. 8Then the lawless one [the Antichrist] will be revealed and the Lord Jesus will slay him with the breath of His mouth and bring him to an end by the appearance of His coming. 9The coming of the [Antichrist, the lawless] one is through the activity of Satan, [attended] with great power [all kinds of counterfeit miracles] and [deceptive] signs and false wonders [all of them lies],10and by unlimited seduction to evil and with all the deception of wickedness for those who are perishing, because they did not welcome the love of the truth [of the gospel] so as to be saved [they were spiritually blind, and rejected the truth that would have saved them]. 11Because of this God will send upon them a misleading influence, [an activity of error and deception] so they will believe the lie, 12in order that all may be judged and condemned who did not believe the truth [about their sin, and the need for salvation through Christ], but instead took pleasure in unrighteousness.” 

2 Thessalonians 2:7-12 AMP

This could not be a better description of the evil overtaking the land today. It is almost unbelievable see what is masquerading as truth in the world today. It seems like today’s wisdom is the opposite of truth, it actually defies worldly wisdom let alone Godly wisdom! If you try to educate the fool, our verse reminds us, it is futile! We see it every day as the world stands in opposition to reality and angerly responds when confronted with the truth!

Our verse today tells us that having Spiritual insights is the “wellspring” of life. The word means “the point of the beginning; the point where the flow starts.” God’s Word and truth are the starting point for a successful life.
