“Why is there money in the hand of a fool to buy wisdom, When he has no common sense or even a heart for it?” Proverbs 17:16 AMP
Today’s verse asks a very sensible question! We see this playing out today as we watch those with great wealth trying to justify their lives of sin and senselessness. You would think that people with means would pursue truth with vigor. Yet, many spend their time living in the pride of life and think they are untouchable because of their wealth. The book of Jerimiah tells us that,
“Cursed is the man who trusts in and relies on mankind, Making [weak, faulty human] flesh his strength, And whose mind and heart turn away from the LORD. 6“For he will be like a shrub in the [parched] desert; And shall not see prosperity when it comes, But shall live in the rocky places of the wilderness, In an uninhabited salt land.
7“Blessed [with spiritual security] is the man who believes and trusts in and relies on the LORD And whose hope and confident expectation is the LORD. 8“For he will be [nourished] like a tree planted by the waters, That spreads out its roots by the river; And will not fear the heat when it comes; But its leaves will be green and moist. And it will not be anxious and concerned in a year of drought Nor stop bearing fruit.:
Jerimiah 17:5-8 AMP
We can clearly see the contrast here between those who are seeking fulfilment in things of the flesh. The Scripture tells us that the things of the world are passing away. The third law of thermodynamics states that “everything is heading toward disorder. Better stated, all things are deteriorating. This goes directly against the premise that evolution proports, everything is getting better! The first part of the verse from Jerimiah states that those who trusts in the things of the flesh, even prospering, will not find fulfilment! The second part of the verse tells us that we will be continually fulfilled and prosper if we are believing, relying, and trusting in the Lord!
Our opening verse tells us that the problem at hand is that this person has no “heart” for wisdom. The word translated heart is the Hebrew word defining the “inner source” of life that controls all other areas. In verse 9 of Jerimiah 17 we read,
““The heart is deceitful above all things And it is extremely sick; Who can understand it fully and know its secret motives?”
Jerimiah 17:9 AMP
This is why we are commanded to put the Word of God in our hearts. The only hope for a sick heart is to be healed by the truth and love of God’s Word! The book of Psalms talks a lot about the heart.
“Trust [rely on and have confidence] in the LORD and do good; Dwell in the land and feed [securely] on His faithfulness. 4Delight yourself in the LORD, And He will give you the desires and petitions of your heart. 5Commit your way to the LORD;
Trust in Him also and He will do it. 6He will make your righteousness [your pursuit of right standing with God] like the light, And your judgment like [the shining of] the noonday [sun].
Psalms 37:3-6 AMP
Do you have a heart today for the things of God? David cried out to God, “examine my heart and see if there is any way unpleasing to You!” Ids that the cry of your heart? Are you content with your relationship with God? The promise is that if you are pursuing, His love, grace, and blessing will be upon you! Have a blessed day, Pastor Ken
