“In peace [and with a tranquil heart] I will both lie down and sleep, For You alone, O LORD, make me dwell in safety and confident trust.” Psalms 4:8 AMP
The greatest area of attack in the life is a believer is that of contentment. The word contentment is defined as “a feeling of satisfaction.” Synonyms of the word are peace, content, and ease. The Apostle Paul was the master of his emotions and practiced contentment in all his life! We read these words in his Epistle to the Philippians.
“Not that I speak from [any personal] need, for I have learned to be content [and self-sufficient through Christ, satisfied to the point where I am not disturbed or uneasy] regardless of my circumstances. 12I know how to get along and live humbly [in difficult times], and I also know how to enjoy abundance and live in prosperity. In any and every circumstance I have learned the secret [of facing life], whether well-fed or going hungry, whether having an abundance or being in need. 13I can do all things [which He has called me to do] through Him who strengthens and empowers me [to fulfill His purpose–I am self-sufficient in Christ’s sufficiency; I am ready for anything and equal to anything through Him who infuses me with inner strength and confident peace.”
Philippians 4:11-13 AMP
Many a man would give all their riches to experience the contentment and peace that passes understanding. The Apostle gives us the key to walking in this palace. Look at the verse again carefully and you will see the answer… “through Him who strengthens and empowers me [to fulfill His purpose–I am self-sufficient in Christ’s sufficiency.” The key to contentment is to know the purpose for which He has called you. The writer of Hebrews wrote,,
“Now may the God of peace [the source of serenity and spiritual well-being] who brought up from the dead our Lord Jesus, the great Shepherd of the sheep, through the blood that sealed and ratified the eternal covenant, 21equip you with every good thing to carry out His will and strengthen you [making you complete and perfect as you ought to be], accomplishing in us that which is pleasing in His sight, through Jesus Christ, to whom be the glory forever and ever. Amen.”
Hebrews 13:20-21 AMP
If we understand that God, the source of “serenity and well-being” is the One working in us, then we are equipped to walk through any circumstance in total peace and well-being. That means we must surrender to Him and trust and rely On Him wholly! Remember that it is He who is at work! The book of Philippians tells us that,
“For it is [not your strength, but it is] God who is effectively at work in you, both to will and to work [that is, strengthening, energizing, and creating in you the longing and the ability to fulfill your purpose] for His good pleasure.”
Philippians 2:13 AMP
What great news! I cannot find contentment in my own strength. I must yield to the Maker as He crafts His plan for my life. Then, and only then can enter the place of peace and contentment knowing that He is in control! Have a day full of peace and content! Pastor Ken
