“Whoever is slothful in his work is brother to him who destroys” Proverbs 18:9 AM
The Scriptures have a lot to say about the way a believer should conduct themselves in the workplace. When we look at the words of Jesus we see an important emphasis.
“When He saw the crowds, He was moved with compassion and pity for them, because they were dispirited and distressed, like sheep without a shepherd. 37Then He said to His disciples, “The harvest is [indeed] plentiful, but the workers are few. 38So pray to the Lord of the harvest to send out workers into His harvest.”
Matthew 9:36-38 AMP
Did you se it? He said to pry for “workers” to bring in the waiting harvest. It isn’t a complicated issue! The word “workers” is the Greek word meaning One who completes and assigned task.” Sometimes we forget that we are now servants of the King! A servant is one who serves. Not a very complicated concept. The task was clearly assigned to the church from the very first day of inception,
“And He said to them, “Go into all the world and preach the gospel to all creation.”
Matthew 16:15 AMP
All of the other activities of the church should be preparing servants to go and complete the task that they were assigned. Who could every forget the teaching that Jesus gave on our responsibilities to complete the task.
““For to everyone who has [and values his blessings and gifts from God, and has used them wisely], more will be given, and [he will be richly supplied so that] he will have an abundance; but from the one who does not have [because he has ignored or disregarded his blessings and gifts from God], even what he does have will be taken away. 30And throw out the worthless servant into the outer darkness; in that place [of grief and torment] there will be weeping [over sorrow and pain] and grinding of teeth [over distress and anger].”
Matthew 25:29-30 AMP
Ouch!!!!! Strong words at the end of the teaching of the talents. When Jesus talked about the Christian life he described it this way.
“But Jesus said to him, “No one who puts his hand to the plow and looks back [to the things left behind] is fit for the kingdom of God.”
Luke 9:62 AMP
He describes the decision to follow Him as one who decided to “plow” the ground. In those days there wasn’t any machinery to do the work! It was intense labor struggling against the hard and rocky ground to prepare it for seed! I am reminded of the prayer of the Apostle Paul for the Colossians:
“For this reason, since the day we heard about it, we have not stopped praying for you, asking [specifically] that you may be filled with the knowledge of His will in all spiritual wisdom [with insight into His purposes], and in understanding [of spiritual things], 10so that you will walk in a manner worthy of the Lord [displaying admirable character, moral courage, and personal integrity], to [fully] please Him in all things, bearing fruit in every good work and steadily growing in the knowledge of God [with deeper faith, clearer insight and fervent love for His precepts]; 11[we pray that you may be] strengthened and invigorated with all power, according to His glorious might, to attain every kind of endurance and patience with joy; 12giving thanks to the Father, who has qualified us to share in the inheritance of the saints (God’s people) in the Light.”
Colossians 1:9-12 AMP
Look at those words, “Walk,” “bearing fruit,” attain,” and “endurance.” While there is peace and rest in the Lord, we are not called to sit on the sidelines and be cheerleaders! We are called to get in the game knowing that in the end, we win!
Have a blessed and fruitful day, Pastor Ken
Amen Pastor. God bless you!
