“Carry one another’s burdens and in this way you will fulfill the requirements of the law of Christ [that is, the law of Christian love].” Galatians 6:2 AMP

Today we are reminded of the reality of our Christian life. It seems to be a simple command, yet it includes surrender, patience, inconvenience, and personal sacrifice. Notice that the Apostle is not commanding the church (the institution) to this standard, but to the individual who calls themselves by Christ’s name!  The Amplified version uses the word “carry” but we find many other flavors of the word in use. I love the International Standard translation of the verse,

“Practice carrying each other’s burdens. In this way you will fulfill the law of the Messiah” Galatians 6:2 ISV

I believe that the ISV nails it when defining the intention of the Greek in this verse. You see to carry something is to exert energy; therefore the use of the word “practice” indicates that it isn’t simply an “I’ll pray for you!” In verse ten Paul connects the dots in an appropriate way.

“So then, while we [as individual believers] have the opportunity, let us do good to all people [not only being helpful, but also doing that which promotes their spiritual well-being], and especially [be a blessing] to those of the household of faith (born-again believers).” Galatians 6:10 AMP

Clearly, we are called as Christians to “…let us do good to ALL people…” and that which promotes their spiritual wellbeing. Being willing to help carry the load for others is sometimes a dirty and difficult process which can be very tiring. The word used here is the same word which denoted Jesus carrying the cross. All the weight of man’s sin was upon Hime yet for love He carried our burdens.

“[looking away from all that will distract us and] focusing our eyes on Jesus, who is the Author and Perfecter of faith [the first incentive for our belief and the One who brings our faith to maturity], who for the joy [of accomplishing the goal] set before Him endured the cross, disregarding the shame, and sat down at the right hand of the throne of God [revealing His deity, His authority, and the completion of His work]. 3Just consider and meditate on Him who endured from sinners such bitter hostility against Himself [consider it all in comparison with your trials], so that you will not grow weary and lose heart.” Hebrews 12:2-3 AMP

While God is not asking us to carry the weight of all man’s sin, He is asking us to be willing to come along side of another and be the light of Christ to them and for them. We must be willing to break out of the four walls of sanctity and touch those who need it most. For it is God’s desire that none should perish but all come to know who He is! Have a blessed day.
