Glory to God

“For who is God except the LORD? Who but our God is a solid rock? 32God arms me with strength, and he makes my way perfect. 33He makes me as surefooted as a deer, enabling me to stand on mountain heights.” Psalm 18:31-33 NLT

Our verses today find themselves embedded in a song of remembrance and thanksgiving of King David praising God for all His doings. Some of my favorite verses are found in this Psalm.

“The ropes of death entangled me; floods of destruction swept over me. 5The grave wrapped its ropes around me; death laid a trap in my path. 6But in my distress I cried out to the LORD; yes, I prayed to my God for help. He heard me from his sanctuary; my cry to him reached his ears.” Psalm 18:4-6 NLT

But in my distress, I called to the Lord! What a beautiful picture of the moment I realized that I was in need of a Savior and deliverer! God was so concerned about my situation that He came heard me and revealed Himself to me! King David asks, “Who is God…? That is a question that all of us need to face. We are told that God is a solid rock, a provider of strength, a counselor, and sustainer!

King David reminds himself and others that it wasn’t by his or their strength that the victories were accomplished. Of course, all these attributes of God can only be accessed by a humble and loving heart. King David was a mighty warrior and fearless leader falsely accused of trying to usurp the throne from King Saul. Nothing could have been further from the truth! The prophet told King Saul that his own actions removed the mantle of his leadership over the nation. Never once during that time did David take it upon himself to deal with Saul but rather constantly said, “who am I to attack God’s anointed?” David left the battle to the Lord and was amply rewarded for his trust and faith in God.

Many times, in the middle of the our battles we tire and ask, “Why is this happening to me?” When those moments come upon us, we need remember that God IS in control. We can do that by recalling and recanting the faithfulness of God in the past. For me, it all begins with worship. Worship allows us to remember who God is and what He is capable of doing. Worship is the highway that allows us to travel from the distractions of the physical world and see into the spiritual realm! It is while in the presence of God that He is able to “arm me with strength.” I love the verse in the book of Hebrews that reminds me I have access to the throne room of God today in my time of need!

“Therefore let us [with privilege] approach the throne of grace [that is, the throne of God’s gracious favor] with confidence and without fear, so that we may receive mercy [for our failures] and find [His amazing] grace to help in time of need [an appropriate blessing, coming just at the right moment].” Hebrews 4:16 AMP

Let me encourage you today to “Enter into the throne room of God” in your time of need. God is waiting and will hear your cry and as the Psalm says, “He reached down from on high and took hold of me; He drew me out of deep waters.” Psalm 18:16
