“Yet in all these things we are more than conquerors and gain an overwhelming victory through Him who loved us [so much that He died for us]. 38For I am convinced [and continue to be convinced–beyond any doubt] that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor principalities, nor things present and threatening, nor things to come, nor powers, 39nor height, nor depth, nor any other created thing, will be able to separate us from the [unlimited] love of God, which is in Christ Jesus our Lord” Romans 8:37-38 AMP
Our verse today opens with “Yet in all these things…” The Apostle just spent time talking about sin in our lives. He now shifts gears to bring words of encouragement! Chapter 8 opens with powerful words,
“1Therefore there is now no condemnation [no guilty verdict, no punishment] for those who are in Christ Jesus [who believe in Him as personal Lord and Savior]. 2For the law of the Spirit of life [which is] in Christ Jesus [the law of our new being] has set you free from the law of sin and of death. 3For what the Law could not do [that is, overcome sin and remove its penalty, its power] being weakened by the flesh [man’s nature without the Holy Spirit], God did: He sent His own Son in the likeness of sinful man as an offering for sin. And He condemned sin in the flesh [subdued it and overcame it in the person of His own Son], 4so that the [righteous and just] requirement of the Law might be fulfilled in us who do not live our lives in the ways of the flesh [guided by worldliness and our sinful nature], but [live our lives] in the ways of the Spirit [guided by His power].” Romans 8:1-4 AMP
The power and penalty from sin have been wrought in Jesus Christ’s sacrifice! It is a great comfort and consolation that there is no condemnation from God toward us who are in Christ! Does that mean we are perfect and never struggle? Of course not! We will always be chastened by the Lord as He keeps us on the road to holiness. The good news is that as we travel that road there is condemnation for our weaknesses. Satan however is very good at reminding us of our past and present failings! Feelings of guilt and despair may overtake us but remember that if we confessed our sin to Him, He is faith and just to forgive us any unrighteousness! Does that mean we continue to sin and disregard the call to holiness? NO! The Scripture is clear that Jesus cane to fulfill the Law an not to destroy it. Salvation now gives us the ability to say no to sin and pursue holiness in our lives. So, what can then separate us from His love? Only us! If we fail to believe His Word then there is no longer hope of reconciliation and we walk any from the very place we need to embrace! The prophet Isaiah speaks about God’s commitment to us.
““For the mountains may be removed and the hills may shake, But My lovingkindness will not be removed from you, Nor will My covenant of peace be shaken,” Says the LORD who has compassion on you.” Isaiah 54:10 AMP.
Let me ask you today, “If God is for you then who can be against you?” Take time today to enter into the rest of forgiveness and restoration. Jesus gave it all so WE could have what we could never afford, peace with God! Have a blessed day, Pastor Ken
