“Because he set his love on Me, therefore I will save him; I will set him [securely] on high, because he knows My name [he confidently trusts and relies on Me, knowing I will never abandon him, no, never].” Psalm 91:14 AMP
Psalm 91 is declaration of an unwavering commitment of God to those who walk in the sincerity of their hearts and of those who have a commitment to walk with God! The key to receiving the promises listed here is spelt out clearly in verse 1.
“He who dwells in the shelter of the Most High Will remain secure and rest in the shadow of the Almighty [whose power no enemy can withstand].” Psalm 91:1 AMP
The Hebrew word for dwell here simply means “to remain.” It is the word used to describe a marriage union. The word speaks of the immovableness of a large rock. Not even the winds of a hurricane can move it from its place. Do we have that same tenacity in our relationship with the Father? I am reminded of a difficult verse in the sixth chapter of Ephesians. Chapter six contains the directions for conducting Spiritual warfare. Many time we try to battle the enemy in our own strength failing miserably! All of the weapons of our warfare are based in the Spiritual realm and on the authority of the name of Jesus Christ. In the middle of the battle the army doesn’t retreat but look for new ways to gain victory! They have a “steadfastness” to dwell in the battle because they trust in their leader and equipment. Verse 13 tells us how we should be in the battle.
“13Therefore, put on the complete armor of God, so that you will be able to [successfully] resist and stand your ground in the evil day [of danger], and having done everything [that the crisis demands], to stand firm [in your place, fully prepared, immovable, victorious].” Ephesians 6:13 AMP
That steadfastness comes from trusting the Father and relying on His strength and abilities! Psalm 91 is a writ of protection for all true believers, not in the name of a king or country but rather under the blood of Christ! I love our verse today because it says “Because he set his love on Me and because he knows My name…” It doesn’t say, “because he does this or that, but because God sees our heart! That is so comforting to me since there are times that I fall short of the expectation God has for my life! I am reminded of the words of Jesus.
“The person who has My commandments and keeps them is the one who [really] loves Me; and whoever [really] loves Me will be loved by My Father, and I will love him and reveal Myself to him [I will make Myself real to him].” John 14:21 AMP
I now do my best to be everything He has called me to be, not because I am afraid of judgement but because I love him. That my friends is the greatest motivation for a holy life that one can ever have! In return He covenants to never abandon me! Have a blessed day, Pastor Ken
