Lift Up My Eyes

“ I will lift up my eyes to the hills [of Jerusalem] – From where shall my help come? 2My help comes from the LORD, Who made heaven and earth.”  Psalms 121:1-2

Psalm 121 was a “song of Ascent.” Starting at the dead sea, one would begin the journey a long way up to the mountain of Jerusalem. It was a dangerous journey fraught with physical and safety challenges. The heat of the sun, the danger of robbers, and the unpredictable weather were all factors in taking the journey up to Jerusalem. Jesus told us the parable of the Good Samaritan. A man fell among robbers and was passed by the ones who should have stopped to help! The traveler would sing or recite this Psalm as a reminder that God would honor their commitment to brave the trek so to as reach the temple of the God of Israel! What a great picture of our lives now.

We all stood at the bottom of the mountain when we began our journey to reach the presence of the Lord. We faced the unknown with the simple trust that God would be our strength. Because we live in a sinful world, the journey is fraught with many challenges, dangers, and times of testing. We too must sing the song of His protection! We must always remember the words of Jesus reminding us that there are challenges ahead.

““So everyone who hears these words of Mine and acts on them, will be like a wise man [a far-sighted, practical, and sensible man] who built his house on the rock. 25And the rain fell, and the floods and torrents came, and the winds blew and slammed against that house; yet it did not fall, because it had been founded on the rock.“ Matthew 7:24-25 AMP

Do you see it? “And the rain fell…” A clear warning that things are in our future. We live in a fallen world and as such will be subject to the conditions of the fall; we however do not need to be fallen with it! The Bible has always been a story of God attempting to reestablish His relationship with Mankind. In the book of Isaiah we read,

“I have spread out My hands all the day long to a rebellious and stubborn people, Who walk in the way that is not good, [following] after their own thoughts and intentions,” Isaiah 65:2 AMP

Looking out over the city we see Jesus crying out to the people.

“O Jerusalem, Jerusalem, who murders the prophets and stones [to death] those [messengers] who are sent to her [by God]! How often I wanted to gather your children together [around Me], as a hen gathers her chicks under her wings, and you were unwilling.” Matthew 23:7 AMP

Are you willing today? God is calling out to you to sit and sup with Him! He desire nothing more than to spend time with you! Have a blessed day. Pastor Ken
