A light in the darkness

“The people who walk in [spiritual] darkness Will see a great Light; Those who live in the dark land, The Light will shine on them.: Isaiah 9:2 AMP

As we prepare ourselves for the arrival of the Savior, things have not changed so much! It was in the garden of Eden that man lost his fellowship with God and began a journey of walking in darkness, spiritual darkness. We rear in the first Epistle of John the following words,

“This is the message [of God’s promised revelation] which we have heard from Him and now announce to you, that God is Light [He is holy, His message is truthful, He is perfect in righteousness], and in Him there is no darkness at all [no sin, no wickedness, no imperfection].”  1 John 1 :5 AMP

The Apostle reminds us that “God is Light.” I his Gospel, Joh describes the arrival of Jesus and describes Him as light.

“In Him was life [and the power to bestow life], and the life was the Light of men. 5The Light shines on in the darkness, and the darkness did not understand it or overpower it or appropriate it or absorb it [and is unreceptive to it].” John 1: 4-5 AMP

We have here a perfect picture of the arrival of God to intervene in the eternal affairs of life. The life that God had purposed us for was to walk with Him in total light. The fall of man caused a separation from Him because in Him can be no darkness! The problem was that man had lived in the darkness so long he did not want to see what his life had become! The verse above tells us that man was “unreceptive to it!” It was if man was in a dark room enjoying his sin when suddenly the lights were turned on, and they could see the reality of their sin. The first step in restoration of our fellowship with God is to acknowledge that we are living in a darkened, sinful state. Man shouted as loud as possible, “Turn out the light!” but the light would not be overcome by sin but it would continue to shine so all could choose the path they wanted! Jesus clearly stated His ministry goals and purpose.

“[For the Son of Man has come to save that which was lost.]” Matthew 18:10 AMP

The Apostle John also reiterates this claim,

“For God did not send the Son into the world to judge and condemn the world [that is, to initiate the final judgment of the world], but that the world might be saved through Him.” John 3:17 AMP

The Apostle Paul also made this statement about the mission of Jesus.

“But all these things are from God, who reconciled us to Himself through Christ [making us acceptable to Him] and gave us the ministry of reconciliation [so that by our example we might bring others to Him], 19that is, that God was in Christ reconciling the world to Himself, not counting people’s sins against them [but canceling them]. And He has committed to us the message of reconciliation [that is, restoration to favor with God].”  2 Corinthians 5:18-19 AMP

What better news can we share this season that God wants to make it right! As we see the world system crumbling around us we can have hope and purpose in delivering the good news to those walking in darkness! Let me encourage you to walk in the light of His love and grace so you may know and experience His love for you today! Have a blessed day, Pastor Ken
