“Why do you misunderstand what I am saying? It is because [your spiritual ears are deaf and] you are unable to hear [the truth of] My word. 44You are of your father the devil, and it is your will to practice the desires [which are characteristic] of your father. He was a murderer from the beginning and does not stand in the truth because there is no truth in him. When he lies, he speaks what is natural to him, for he is a liar and the father of lies and half-truths. 45But because I speak the truth, you do not believe Me [and continue in your unbelief].” John 8:43-45 AMP

There is so much discussion today about where to find truth. Logic demands that there cannot be two truths supporting the same issue. There certainly can be two opinions about an issue but the foundation of existence demands logic and order. The United States put a man on the moon on the fact that truth exists and cannot be broken. his feat was accomplished with limited computing power, relying on unchangeable mathematical laws! Buildings reach the sky, bridges cross rivers and dams hold back millions of gallons of water because of the reality of truths! Jesus claimed not only to be the way but the “truth and life.” 

“Jesus said to him, “I am the [only] Way [to God] and the [real] Truth and the [real] Life; no one comes to the Father but through Me.” John 14:6 AMP

Jesus isn’t saying here that He is another teacher and holder of truth but rather He is the embodiment of truth! This claim goes against the popular philosophy of today, “relativism, which claims there is no absolute truth and that whatever you feel should guide your life.” I wouldn’t have wanted to be in the space capsule that day hoping that whatever the scientist who plotted the trajectory of my journey felt that day was close enough! It is simply foolishness to not acknowledge that there are laws and principles that cannot be broken. So how then do we know that what Jesus is claiming is true? We can know that He is telling the truth by the results of His message.

“Now there was a certain man among the Pharisees named Nicodemus, a ruler (member of the Sanhedrin) among the Jews, 2who came to Jesus at night and said to Him, “Rabbi (Teacher), we know [without any doubt] that You have come from God as a teacher; for no one can do these signs [these wonders, these attesting miracles] that You do unless God is with him.” 3Jesus answered him, “I assure you and most solemnly say to you, unless a person is born again [reborn from above–spiritually transformed, renewed, sanctified], he cannot [ever] see and experience the kingdom of God.” John 3:1-3 AMP

According to this encounter, Nicodemus acknowledged that Jesus’ results were proof of what he was saying. That is exactly the process a scientist goes through to establish a truth. Test the premise, record the results, repeat the process, and establish a pattern. If the results are repeatedly consistent a fact can be established! If Jesus’ claim were false, His message would not consistently produce spiritual rebirth across cultures and centuries resulting in a new life, which fulfills His statement in John 14! Do we see that pattern repeating itself? YES! Millions of lives have been transformed over the centuries since Jesus claimed to be the way, truth, and life! What then can we say about our verse today? Satan is a liar! From the beginning Satan set the pattern, speak a half-truth, deceive the people, death and destruction follow. “Did God really say…” Satan loves to make something wrong look right knowing that man will begin to reason away the truth until he embraces the lie! If one continues believing the lie, ultimate destruction will ensue. Ask anyone who has or is walking in recovery! Satan wanted to destroy our lives but now we have hope and life because we finally believed the truth that Jesus is the way, the truth, and the life!
