“One gives freely, yet gains even more; another withholds what is right, only to become poor.
A generous soul will prosper, and he who refreshes others will himself be refreshed.”
Proverbs 11:24–25 AMP
Giving is more than an obligation to the church; it is a privilege of participating in the ministry of God. When we give freely and with joy to bless someone directly, we often experience immediate feedback — gratitude, relief, impact. But when the offering plate is passed, there can sometimes be hesitation or heaviness.
Why is that?
Perhaps because Kingdom giving requires faith. It asks us to sow into something eternal, often without immediate visible return. It calls us to trust that what is placed into God’s hands will accomplish more than what we could accomplish on our own.
The Scriptures remind us that entering the Kingdom of God involves both rights and responsibilities. We gladly participate in supporting the systems of the world that sustain daily life. How much more should we view participation in the work of God as sacred stewardship?
Jesus addressed our tendency to cling tightly to resources when He said:
“Therefore I tell you, stop being worried or anxious (perpetually uneasy, distracted) about your life, as to what you will eat or what you will drink; nor about your body, as to what you will wear. Is life not more than food, and the body more than clothing?”
Matthew 6:25 AMP
“But if God so clothes the grass of the field, which is alive and green today and tomorrow is thrown into the furnace, will He not much more clothe you? You of little faith! Therefore do not worry… But first and most importantly seek (aim at, strive after) His kingdom and His righteousness… and all these things will be given to you also.”
Matthew 6:30–33 AMP
Do you see it? Seeking first the Kingdom requires trust. Trust shifts our focus from self-preservation to eternal purpose. Giving becomes an expression of confidence that God truly is our provider.
The Lord even invites His people to test Him in this area:
“‘Will a man rob God? Yet you are robbing Me!… Bring all the tithes into the storehouse… and test Me now in this,’ says the LORD of hosts, ‘if I will not open for you the windows of heaven and pour out for you so great a blessing that there will not be room enough to receive it.’”
Malachi 3:8–10 AMP
This passage is not about manipulating God for gain. It is about alignment. When we withhold, we tighten our grip. When we give, we loosen it — and in doing so, we demonstrate trust.
We do not give in order to receive. We give because generosity reflects the heart of our Father. We give because it is our privilege to partner with God in serving the poor, ministering to widows, discipling believers, and proclaiming the Gospel.
The promise in Malachi is not about luxury; it is about provision. God assures us that as we faithfully steward what He places in our hands, He will ensure we have what we need. Every day we place trust in financial systems and markets that offer no guarantees. Yet God offers a covenant promise rooted in His character. The generous soul will prosper — not merely financially, but spiritually, relationally, eternally.
Let me encourage you today: examine your heart. Is your giving marked by reluctance or by trust? Ask the Lord to help you see generosity not as loss, but as participation in His eternal work.
Have a blessed day,
