I Will Tell of Your Name – Psalm 22:22

“I will tell of Your name to my countrymen; In the midst of the congregation, I will praise You.”
Psalm 22:22 AMP

One of the great privileges we have as children of God is the ability to speak of His goodness in our lives. This is not limited to formal evangelism—it is the natural response of a heart that has been transformed. We proclaim the excellencies of Him who has called us out of darkness into His marvelous light. The words of this Psalm are deeply connected to the cross. It begins with the cry of Jesus:

“My God, my God, why have You forsaken me?” Psalm 22:1 AMP

To understand the praise in verse 22, we must first understand the suffering that came before it. Jesus came with a clear mission—to restore what was lost in our relationship with God.

“This is a faithful and trustworthy statement… that Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners…” 1 Timothy 1:15 AMP

The problem was that sin demanded a payment, and none of us could pay the debt. So Christ took on human flesh—even taking the form of a servant—and lived a perfect life, qualifying Himself to become the sacrifice for our sin.

“Therefore… He Himself in a similar manner also shared in the same human nature… so that through death He might make powerless him who had the power of death…”                   Hebrews 2:14–15 AMP

The penalty for sin is death. In that moment on the cross, the full weight of sin was placed upon Him. Throughout His life, Jesus had never experienced separation from the Father. But in that moment, He endured something we cannot fully comprehend—not only physical suffering, but the spiritual pain of separation. We live in a fallen state and have grown accustomed to that separation.

He had not. And yet, Scripture tells us why He endured it:

“…who for the joy set before Him endured the cross…” Hebrews 12:2 AMP

What was that joy? You.

You were the joy set before Him. You were the reason He endured the suffering, the shame, and the separation. “For God so loved you that He paid your penalty so that you could be called His own.” When we truly grasp that reality, it compels a response. “I will tell of Your name… in the midst of the congregation, I will praise You.” We cannot remain silent about what He has done.

So let me ask you:

When was the last time you shared what God has done in your life?
When was the last time you openly praised Him among others?

As we enter this Easter season, take time to reflect on the sacrifice that was made for you.

Celebrate His goodness.
Proclaim His name.
Tell your story.

Reflection Question

Who in your life needs to hear what God has done for you—and are you willing to tell them?

Have a blessed day,
