“Honor the LORD with your wealth and with the first fruits of all your crops (income);
Then your barns will be abundantly filled and your vats will overflow with new wine.”
Proverbs 3:9–10 AMP
Have you ever struggled with tithing? Our verse today reminds us that God is the source of all our blessings. It is both right and fitting that we honor Him with what He has entrusted to us. Many people struggle with the idea of giving, especially when it comes to the church. The misunderstanding is this: they believe they are giving to an organization, when in reality, they are giving to God.
Giving is not simply a financial transaction—it is an act of worship.
In the Old Testament, the people gave so that the work of the temple could continue. The Levites did not receive land as an inheritance because they were fully devoted to the service of the Lord. Their provision came through the faithful giving of the people. This act of offering first fruits was a demonstration of trust—trust that God would continue to provide.
Honoring God with our wealth goes beyond money. It reflects gratitude, respect, and faithful stewardship of what He has placed in our hands. Scripture reminds us:
“But you shall remember the LORD your God, for it is He who is giving you power to make wealth…” Deuteronomy 8:18 AMP
Everything we have ultimately comes from Him.
Jesus reinforced this truth:
“Seek first His kingdom and His righteousness, and all these things will be given to you also.”
Matthew 6:33 AMP
If we truly believe that God will provide for our needs, then why do we sometimes hesitate to trust Him with what He has already given us? Often, the struggle is not about resources—it is about trust.
We live in a world that constantly pulls our attention toward temporary things—comfort, possessions, and personal gain. None of these are wrong in themselves, but they can easily take priority over our obedience to God. Giving reorients our hearts. It reminds us that God is first.
The Apostle Paul explains the purpose and blessing of generosity:
“Now He who provides seed for the Sower and bread for food will provide and multiply your seed for sowing [that is, your resources] and increase the harvest of your righteousness [which shows itself in active goodness, kindness, and love]. 11You will be enriched in every way so that you may be generous, and this [generosity, administered] through us is producing thanksgiving to God [from those who benefit]. 12For the ministry of this service (offering) is not only supplying the needs of the saints (God’s people), but is also overflowing through many expressions of thanksgiving to God. 13Because of this act of ministry, they will glorify God for your obedience to the gospel of Christ which you confess, as well as for your generous participation [in this gift] for them and for all [the other believers in need],” 2 Corinthians 9:10-13 AMP
Giving is not only about meeting needs—it is about participating in what God is doing. It produces thanksgiving, strengthens the body of Christ, and reflects obedience to the gospel. So let me encourage you today:
Honor God with what He has given you.
Trust Him as your provider.
And do not allow fear or doubt to hold you back from obedience.
Reflection Question
What might be holding you back from fully trusting God with your resources?

What a great message you have sent. Indeed, our first love should be for our Lord, not for the things of this world or any other concern of this world.
God bless you abundantly in Jesus name
