Blessed Be the Lord – Psalm 68:19

“Blessed be the Lord, who bears our burden day by day, The God who is our salvation! Selah.”
Psalm 68:19 AMP

What a powerful promise from the One who gave everything for us. Do you see those words? “Who bears our burdens day by day. “Not occasionally. Not when we earn it.
Every day.

The final word of the verse—Selah—calls us to pause and reflect. Yet in the busyness of life, we often lose the ability to slow down and truly meditate on what God is saying. Distraction is one of the enemy’s greatest tools. If we are constantly occupied, we rarely take time to understand and absorb the truth of God’s Word.

The Psalm begins with the phrase: “Blessed be the Lord…” This is more than a statement, it is a response. It is an acknowledgment that God is the source of everything we need. Matthew Henry once wrote that God ““So many, so weighty, are the gifts of God’s bounty to us that He may be truly said to “load us” with them: He pours out blessing till there is no more room to receive them.”” His blessings are not small or occasional, they are abundant. The Scripture reinforces this truth:

“Bring all the tithes (the tenth) into the storehouse, so that there may be food in My house, and test Me now in this,” says the LORD of hosts, “if I will not open for you the windows of heaven and pour out for you [so great] a blessing until there is no more room to receive it.” Malachi 3:10 AMP

Yet the enemy works hard to convince us otherwise—to make us believe that God is not enough, or that we must carry our burdens alone. But we are reminded of a simple truth captured in the old hymn:

What a friend we have in Jesus,
All our sins and griefs to bear…
Oh what peace we often forfeit,
Oh what needless pain we bear,
All because we do not carry
Everything to God in prayer.

How often do we rush through prayer bringing our requests to God and then moving on without listening? How often do we pick up the burdens we just laid at the cross and carry them again? Prayer is not just about speaking, it is about relationship. God already knows our needs. Prayer is where we learn to trust Him. Scripture encourages us:

“But you, beloved, build yourselves up on the foundation of your most holy faith continually progress, rise like an edifice higher and higher, pray in the Holy Spirit, “ Jude 1:20 AMP

Faith grows through relationship. And relationship requires time, time to listen, to reflect, and to dwell in His presence. King David understood this. Even as a king, he made time to reflect on God’s faithfulness. That confidence is what allowed him to stand before giants and lead a nation.

So what about us?

If David had time to seek God, what is holding us back?

Take time today to slow down. Sit with the One who carries your burdens. Meditate on His Word. Listen for His voice.

He is faithful and He is near.

Reflection Question

When was the last time you truly slowed down to listen to God, not just speak to Him?

Have a blessed day,
Pastor Ken
