“For Your arrows have sunk into me and penetrate deeply, And Your hand has pressed down on me and greatly disciplined me. There is no soundness in my flesh because of Your indignation; There is no health in my bones because of my sin. For my iniquities have gone over my head like the waves of a flood; As a heavy burden they weigh too much for me.”
Psalm 38:2–4 AMP
There comes a moment in many of our lives when the pain of our sin becomes greater than the fear of facing it. That moment is often what we call hitting bottom. The Psalmist is there. His words reflect deep conviction and overwhelming weight. The “arrows” and the “hand of God” pressing upon him describe the work of conviction—God bringing awareness to the reality of sin.
Before Christ, we often tried to deal with that weight in other ways through distraction, escape, or self-medication. Drugs, alcohol, gambling, and other behaviors became ways to avoid the nagging reality that something was deeply wrong. But conviction is not meant to destroy us. It is meant to bring us back. The Psalmist recognizes the source of his condition, his sin and the weight becomes unbearable: “…as a heavy burden they weigh too much for me.” And that is the turning point.
In the Old Testament, sin was dealt with through sacrifices that temporarily covered it. But those sacrifices pointed to something greater.
“But when Christ appeared as a High Priest… He entered… through His own blood, and not through the blood of goats and calves, but through His own blood, having obtained and secured eternal redemption that is, the salvation of all who personally believe in Him as Savior. having obtained eternal redemption.” Hebrews 9:11–12 AMP
This is the Good News, through Christ, sin is not just covered, it is forgiven. Yet the enemy works hard to keep people trapped in guilt and hopelessness, convincing them there is no way out. But Jesus gives a different invitation:
“Come to Me, all who are weary and heavily burdened… and I will give you rest.”
Matthew 11:28 AMP
Rest is not found in escape. It is found in surrender. It is found in relationship, not religious activity. God spoke of this promise through the prophet Jerimiah:
“…I will put My law within them, and I will write it on their hearts; and I will be their God, and they will be My people. 34And each man will no longer teach his neighbor and his brother, saying, ‘Know the LORD,’ for they will all know Me through personal experience, from the least of them to the greatest,” says the LORD. “For I will forgive their wickedness, and I will no longer remember their sin.”” Jeremiah 31:33–34 AMP
Do you see it? Not just knowing about Him but knowing Him.
So where are you today?
Do you know Him? Are you carrying burdens that have become too heavy to bear?
Are you trying to manage the guilt and pain only God can remove?
Today is the day to stop running.
Turn to Him.
Surrender to Him.
God is calling you into the relationship He has made possible.
Reflection Question
Are you tired and weary today? Are you ready to let God carry your load?
Have a peaceful day,

When the weight of sin becomes too heavy to bear, that’s when we find the courage to face the truth. Like David, when we feel the burden of our wrongdoing, we realize that only in Christ’s sacrifice do we find true freedom. Jesus calls us to come to Him, to lift our burdens, and to rest in His grace.
Such a wonderful 👍
