“The LORD is their [unyielding] strength, And He is the fortress of salvation to His anointed.” Psalm 28:8 AMP

Did you know that you too can have unyielding strength? Our verse today promises us that if we rely on His strength, He is able to protect. The Hebrew word here for strength is the word uses to describe a military fortress. It is defined as “a condition in which one can exert great force or withstand a great force with a focus of having the ability to do what is needed, intended, or necessary; A place or structure which is a safe place to reside when under attack.” We read in the book of Exodus as the children of Isreal traveled through the desert,

“You in Your lovingkindness and goodness have led the people whom You have redeemed; In Your strength You have guided them with care to Your holy habitation.” Exodus 15:13 AMP

God Himself was their protector and guide. Today, we are all on a journey to the heavenly throne room and need daily guidance and protection. 

“And if they had been thinking of that country from which they departed [as their true home], they would have had [a continuing] opportunity to return. 16But the truth is that they were longing for a better country, that is, a heavenly one. For that reason God is not ashamed [of them or] to be called their God [even to be surnamed their God–the God of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob]; for He has prepared a city for them.” Hebrews 11:15-16 AMP

The Scripture clearly warns us of the dangers of the journey. Looking back from where we have come can have disastrous results! We must keep our eyes fixed on the path and our ears open for Him leading, seeking to be focused on the path.

“Enter through the narrow gate. For wide is the gate and broad and easy to travel is the path that leads the way to destruction and eternal loss, and there are many who enter through it.” Matthew 7:13 AMP

This verse is referring to those who are not truly seeking the right path. They carelessly wonder without a clear direction and intent to find the narrow way. The good news is that if we are seeking the Kingdom of God, everything we need will be added! We must remember that the distractions are real and that we have a real enemy.

“Be sober-minded and alert. Your⁺ adversary the devil {diabolos} prowls around like a roaring lion, seeking someone to devour.” 1 Peter 5:8 AMP

I love the Amplified emphasis in this verse, “Be sober minded and alert.” Many Christians today are anything but! This verse reminds us that we need to take our time and consider our actions and direction. The world today is running at 100 mph and it’s easy to get swept up in the accelerated pace of life.  If the enemy can get us tied up with “doing” instead of “being” we can lose sight of the road ahead. Our verse today reminds us in the middle of the attacks of the enemy we can have “unyielding strength.” That only comes from knowing the secret of “when I am weak He si strong!”

The book of Hebrews reminds us that we can come boldly to the throne room of grace in our time of need. When was the last time you were there? Have you been trying to fight the battle alone?
