“Because he set his love on Me, therefore I will save him; I will set him [securely] on high, because he knows My name [he confidently trusts and relies on Me, knowing I will never abandon him, no, never]. 15“He will call upon Me, and I will answer him; I will be with him in trouble; I will rescue him and honor him. 16“With a long life I will satisfy him And I will let him see My salvation.” Psalms 91:14-16 AMP
Our verse this morning begins with a most important fact, “Because he set his love on Me…” The key to entering the following promises of God can be found only in loving Him! I remember that it wasn’t the fear of God’s judgement that drome me to my knees its was His unconditional love. While His love is unconditional and forgiveness readily available, it does not give us freedom to simply go on sinning and allowing it to destroy our lives! No! Jesus gave it all so that we no longer be driven by the power of sin in our lives. Notice what is says about those who love Him, “I will save him!” No greater gift can one receive thatn the forgiveness of one’s sin. The Scripture tells us that,
“I will give them a heart to know Me, [understanding fully] that I am the LORD; and they will be My people, and I will be their God, for they will return to Me with their whole heart.”
Jerimiah 24:7 AMP
Look closely at that verse, “I will give them a heart to know Me…” The greatest gift of salvation is that we receive a “heart transplant” and that which was old will become new. Our whole perspective on life and God suddenly changes and we see the reality of sin and the goodness of God. The prophet Samuel reminded the people that there should be a change of behavior and practice toward sin. So too, today, we must take heed of the call of the prophet.
“Then Samuel said to all the house of Israel, “If you are returning to the LORD with all your heart, remove the foreign gods and the Ashtaroth (pagan goddesses) from among you and direct your hearts to the LORD and serve Him only; and He will rescue you from the hand of the Philistines.”
1 Samuel 7:3 AMP
The writer of the book of Hebrews gives us also a stern warning about using the grace of God to justify our sinning.
“How much greater punishment do you think he will deserve who has rejected and trampled under foot the Son of God, and has considered unclean and common the blood of the covenant that sanctified him, and has insulted the Spirit of grace [who imparts the unmerited favor and blessing of God]?”
Hebrews 10:29 AMP
The question we all must ask is, “Have I given my whole heart to Him?” Look agin to our opening verses.
16“With a long life I will satisfy him And I will let him see My salvation.”
Psalms 91:14-16 AMP
The promises of God are exceeding wonderful! Who would not want security, never to be abandoned, to have God with them in the time of trouble of live a long life? The best part is that He will let them see His salvation! Remember the words of Jesus?
“He who believes and trusts in the Son and accepts Him [as Savior] has eternal life [that is, already possesses it]; but he who does not believe the Son and chooses to reject Him, [disobeying Him and denying Him as Savior] will not see [eternal] life, but [instead] the wrath of God hangs over him continually.”
John 3:36 AMP
Our salvation brings many rewards to those who come wholeheartedly to Him! The reality however is that our salvation is for the moment we leave this wretched body and are standing in the presence of the One who set us free! King David prayed a prayer that is the most dangerous one I know.
“Put me on trial, LORD, and cross-examine me. Test my motives and my heart.”
Psalm 26:2 NLT
Ask the Holy Spirit to revel to you the areas that are not yet surrendered to Him. In doing so, the cleansing power of His love can be source of new life in the ravaged areas not yet surrendered to Him! Have a blessed day, Pastor Ken
