Seek Godly Council

“Without consultation and wise advice, plans are frustrated, But with many counselors they are established and succeed.”

Proverbs 15:22 AMP

In a day and age of me, myself and I, team works seems to have lost its way! I once used the phrase, “There is no I in the word team,” and suddenly from the group came the statement, “yes, but there is a m and e!” Jokingly or not, this has become the pervasive attitude in almost every are of life. All the vandalism, looting, and pilfering we see on the streets today is based in the attitude, “me first!” One needs to be careful when using the words, “I deserve this!” The Scripture is clear about what re really deserve, eternal judgement!

“In this way I will punish the world for its evil And the wicked for their wickedness [their sin, their injustice, their wrongdoing]; I will also put an end to the arrogance of the proud And will abase the arrogance of the tyrant.”

Isaiah 13:11 AMP

Our verse today emphasizes the importance of getting and considering godly wisdom, whether it is in planning a major constriction project or deciding the paths of life, godly wisdom is of great value! We must remember that many of God’s promises to us are conditional. We often read “if – then” verses about the benefits of living in the Kingdom of God. Like any structured society, God’s kingdom has its laws and ordinances. It is when we are not sure of the way ahead that we should seek godly wisdom and direction. Ultimately we must make a decision but we can do so in confidence if we understand the ground rules and consequences of our actions.

The word translated “frustrated” here is the Hebrew word meaning to “break, nullify, violate or disregard a treaty.” We read a strong warning from God to the people under the old covenant,

“‘But if you do not obey Me, and do not observe all these commandments, 15and if you despise My statutes, or if your soul abhors My judgments, so that you do not perform all My commandments, but break My covenant, 16I also will do this to you: I will even appoint terror over you, wasting disease and fever which shall consume the eyes and cause sorrow of heart. And you shall sow your seed [e]in vain, for your enemies shall eat it. 17I will [f]set My face against you, and you shall be defeated by your enemies. Those who hate you shall reign over you, and you shall flee when no one pursues you. 18‘And after all this, if you do not obey Me, then I will punish you seven times more for your sins. 19I will break the pride of your power I will make your heavens like iron and your earth like bronze 20And your strength shall be spent in vain; for your land shall not yield its produce, nor shall the trees of the land yield their fruit.

Leviticus 26:14-20 NKJV

The people had made a covenant with the Lord to follow His ways and be His people. Notice that the agreement was a two-way street. God was committed to do His part and the people were committed to do theirs. As we have discussed prior to this, sin has consequences! It wasn’t God that broke the agreement but rather people wanting to “put off” what they felt were the constraints God enacted to protect them from disaster!

The word “established” here is the word meaning to “come to fruition or existence; enduring, standing, or to stay fixed.” I love this part of the verse. It reminds us that God’s ways are enduring and eternal! Jesus reenforced this principle when He told the disciples,

Therefore whoever hears these sayings of Mine, and does them, I will liken him to a wise man who built his house on the rock: 25and the rain descended, the floods came, and the winds blew and beat on that house; and it did not fall, for it was founded on the rock. 26“But everyone who hears these sayings of Mine, and does not do them, will be like a foolish man who built his house on the sand:  27and the rain descended, the floods came, and the winds blew and beat on that house; and it fell. And great was its fall.” Matthew 7:24-27 NKJV

Let me encourage you today to be selective and careful as to what voices you are listening to! Many today are promoting me, myself, and I when in reality we are called to lose our lives so He can live through us! Have a blessed day, Pastor Ken
