“Now faith is the assurance (title deed, confirmation) of things hoped for (divinely guaranteed), and the evidence of things not seen [the conviction of their reality–faith comprehends as fact what cannot be experienced by the physical senses.” Hebrews 11:1-2 AMP

II want to diverge this month and take some time to develop our faith! The hallmark verse of the Bible is Hebrews Chapter 11:1. The writer of the book of Hebrews gives us a blueprint about the fabric and substance of the practice of faith. The Scripture is clear,

“But without faith it is impossible to [walk with God and] please Him, for whoever comes [near] to God must [necessarily] believe that God exists and that He rewards those who [earnestly and diligently] seek Him.”

Hebrews 11:6 AMP

Of course, each of us has the goal of walking with God and experiencing His life-giving power and victory over sin. The word we want to understand here tis “impossible.” The root of this word is the word meaning to “exercise authority; to be factually able to accomplish;” The stress is upon the ability to accomplish something. The Greek’s understood this word to mean to have a connection to a power giving the ability to do the task. It means that the one attempting to accomplish the task is empowered by the connection to a source of that power. What a beautiful picture of our relationship with the Holy Spirit! Jesus told us that,

“I am the Vine; you are the branches. The one who remains in Me and I in him bears much fruit, for [otherwise] apart from Me [that is, cut off from vital union with Me] you can do nothing.”

John 15:5 AMP

Now, the word used here has the preposition a which means without. The verse is telling us that without a connection to the power-giving source we cannot walk in faith! The verse goes on to tell us that whoever comes “must necessarily believe.” The word used here means to “have confidence, trust, and experience the reliability of something.” In our case, God and His Word! Jesus put it in a very practical way when He said,

““So everyone who hears these words of Mine and acts on them, will be like a wise man [a far-sighted, practical, and sensible man] who built his house on the rock. 25And the rain fell, and the floods and torrents came, and the winds blew and slammed against that house; yet it did not fall, because it had been founded on the rock.”

Matthew 7:24-25 AMP

Notice again that the condition for success is building upon the “rock” of God! We know that He will never lie, deceive or ask of us that which we cannot do! The only requirement from us is to have confidence, trust, and our previous experiences with God to lead us forward!  I love the verse,

“I can do all things [which He has called me to do] through Him who strengthens and empowers me [to fulfill His purpose—I am self-sufficient in Christ’s sufficiency; I am ready for anything and equal to anything through Him who infuses me with inner strength and confident peace.]”

Philippians 4:13 AMP

WOW! Do you see it? “…through Him who strengthens and empowers me…” He is the source of the power to accomplish the things that He told called us to do! I love the words of the Apostle here and pray them for you, “…I am self-sufficient in Christ’s sufficiency; I am ready for anything and equal to anything through HIM who infuses me with inner strength and inner peace.”

Take time today to remember the faithfulness of God and the time you have experienced His love and grace. May it propel you deeper into the power of His Word and work in your life. Have a blessed day, Pastor Ken
