““I have told you these things while I am still with you. 26But the [d]Helper (Comforter, Advocate, Intercessor–Counselor, Strengthener, Standby), the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in My name [in My place, to represent Me and act on My behalf], He will teach you all things. And He will help you remember everything that I have told you” John 14:25-26 AMP
We are told that the Holy Spirit will help us, comfort us and meet us in our very specific needs. The most important of these functions is concerning the Word of God and the teaching of Jesus. The Holy Spirit is the revelator and interpreter of the Word of God. It is the Holy Spirit that brings to life the words of the Scripture and helps us apply them to our lives. Look at the Scripture again. The Holy Spirit is to teach and remind. This is important that we can trust that the disciples were not writing their account from their memory but under the direction of the Holy Spirit!
“but understand this first of all, that no prophecy of Scripture is a matter of or comes from one’s own [personal or special] interpretation, 21for no prophecy was ever made by an act of human will, but men moved by the Holy Spirit spoke from God.” 2 Peter 1:20-21 AMP
In Luke 24:8 we read,
“While they were perplexed and wondering about this, suddenly, two men in dazzling clothing stood near them; 5and as the women were terrified and were bowing their faces to the ground, the men said to them, “Why are you looking for the living One among the dead? 6He is not here, but has risen. Remember how He told you, while He was still in Galilee, 7saying that the Son of Man must be handed over to sinful men, and be crucified, and on the third day rise [from death to life].” 8And they remembered His words, 9and after returning from the tomb, they reported all these things to the eleven [apostles] and to all the rest.” Luke 24:4-8 AMP
Suddenly things began to make sense! There were many occasions that the disciples did not understand the relevance of the words or events they were experiencing with Jesus. That all changed when the Holy Spirit came to indwell them and teach them! Not only did the Holy Spirit bring clarity to them but He also would teach them for the rest of their lives. While Jesus was on earth, He was the greatest teach. Now, the responsibility has been turned over to the Holy Spirit. Whatever we need to know about the Word of God, the Holy Spirit is here to teach us. The question is…are you willing to learn? I am always reminded that with knowledge comes responsibility. The Apostle Paul prayed,
“I do not cease to give thanks for you, remembering you in my prayers; 17[I always pray] that the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of glory, may grant you a spirit of wisdom and of revelation [that gives you a deep and personal and intimate insight] into the true knowledge of Him [for we know the Father through the Son]. 18And [I pray] that the eyes of your heart [the very center and core of your being] may be enlightened [flooded with light by the Holy Spirit], so that you will know and cherish the hope [the divine guarantee, the confident expectation] to which He has called you, the riches of His glorious inheritance in the saints (God’s people), 19and [so that you will begin to know] what the immeasurable and unlimited and surpassing greatness of His [active, spiritual] power is in us who believe.” Ephesians 1:16-19 AMP
Do you see it? The answer to the prayer is to be “flooded with light by the Holy Spirit.” I pray that you may also be flooded with light by the Holy Spirit and that you may be empowered to respond to the things He is teaching you! Have a blessed day, Pastor Ken
