“In the same way the Spirit [comes to us and] helps us in our weakness. We do not know what prayer to offer or how to offer it as we should, but the Spirit Himself [knows our need and at the right time] intercedes on our behalf with sighs and groanings too deep for words.” Romans 8:26 AMP
As we have seen, one of the ministries of the Holy Spirit is comforter. This verse in the book of Romans is one of my favorites because it reminds me that I don’t have to have all the answers! I am sure we can all testify to those moments when our hearts a pierced and the pain was too overwhelming for words. If we are willing, the Holy Spirit can “take-over” and pray through us during those times! The Apostle Paul told the church at Corinth,
“Oh, the depth of the riches and wisdom and knowledge of God! How unsearchable are His judgments and decisions and how unfathomable and untraceable are His ways” Romans 11:33 AMP
Clearly, we do not have the capacity to understand the ways of the almighty. We are led too often by emotion and self-seeking desire. The Holy Spirit however knows the mind of God and can pray exactly in line with that through us. Paul reminded the Corinthians of this fact.
“For God has unveiled them and revealed them to us through the [Holy] Spirit; for the Spirit searches all things [diligently], even [sounding and measuring] the [profound] depths of God [the divine counsels and things far beyond human understanding].” 1 Corinthians 2:10 AMP
Jesus told the disciples directly that that which the Spirit hears in the heavenlies and will deliver it to the earthly! Since we know that the gift of the Holy Spirit is alive and well today, we must conclude that He has come with gifts and abilities to help us finish the race. Paul, again speaking to the Corinthian church, mentioned that one of the abilities given to the believer was to speak in tongues. Tongues can be either a known language that you have never learned or can understand. There is also another one that is heavenly in nature. Paul identified this when he said,
“If I speak with the tongues of men and of angels but have not love [for others growing out of God’s love for me], then I have become only a noisy gong or a clanging cymbal [just an annoying distraction].” 1 Corinthians 13:1
The Apostle qualified this heavenly language as used to speak directly to God.
“For one who speaks in an unknown tongue does not speak to people but to God; for no one understands him or catches his meaning, but by the Spirit he speaks mysteries [secret truths, hidden things]. 1 Corinthians 14:2 AMP
I would propose that this is the Holy Spirit pouring out our grief through us when we do not know how to pray. There have many times I did not know exactly how to pray and let the Spirit pray through me to the Father. Remember that every good gift is from the Father above. We can be sure that He has given us the tools to win this battle! Have a blessed day, Pastor Ken
