“Yet in all these things we are more than conquerors and gain an overwhelming victory through Him who loved us [so much that He died for us].” Romans 8:37 AMP
For anyone looking for victory over sin and addiction, come to the cross of Christ! Many weapons of mass destruction have been invented by man but nothing he has invented has the power to change a heart! The cross of Christ not only provided forgiveness and salvation but through it we are able to have victory in our lives. Not only victory but overwhelming success and freedom from the sin that so easily besets us! The Greet word here is an interesting compound word. The root word is the word meaning to “have superiority; overwhelming success; demonstrate an action by the overthrow of an opposing force and the success is palpable and manifest to all who see.” The word has an attached prefix which you may recognize; Hyper! It is the Greek adjective meaning over, excessive, or exaggerated. If we are to believe God’s Word, we have “over” the power we need to be victorious in our lives! Earlier in the chapter the Apostle outlines the adversity he faced in his calling.
“Who shall ever separate us from the love of Christ? Will tribulation, or distress, or persecution, or famine, or nakedness, or danger, or sword?“ Romans 8:35 AMP
It is interesting to me that he uses the word “who” here in describing the source of all these things! Many do not believe that we have a real enemy, with real power, and a real plan to destroy our lives but the Word of God is true! When Challenges come, we must remember that God is with us and not the source of the attack! Look at verse 28.
“And we know [with great confidence] that God [who is deeply concerned about us] causes all things to work together [as a plan] for good for those who love God, to those who are called according to His plan and purpose.” Romans 8:28 AMP
A conquer is more than a victor. One who simply wins over an adversary called a victor, a conquer not only has the victory but nullifies the plan of his enemy and makes the conquered serve his purpose! That is what is means to be more than a conquer. The key to this kind of authority rests only in one place…the cross of Jesus Christ! The Apostle John put it this way.
“For everyone born of God is victorious and overcomes the world; and this is the victory that has conquered and overcome the world—our [continuing, persistent] faith [in Jesus the Son of God].” 1 John 5:4 AMP
We must believe! That can be difficult to remember in the middle of the battle. Remember Hebrews 11:1?
“Now faith is the assurance (title deed, confirmation) of things hoped for (divinely guaranteed), and the evidence of things not seen [the conviction of their reality—faith comprehends as fact what cannot be experienced by the physical senses].” Hebrews 11:1 AMP
Our challenges and circumstances may say something different than what believe. The enemy roars like a lion because he must make himself look bigger and stronger. IT is at those moments that we need to hold fast to the truth of God’s Word. I love the way the amplified translates the verse. “Faith comprehends as fact what cannot be experienced by the physical senses]. Take time today to build your “faith bullets” for the battles ahead and remember that we battle not against flesh and blood but powers and principalities in heavenly place! Have a blessed day, Pastor Ken
Of course, the life of a Christian believer is always connected to his Lord. He remains faithful to his Lord in all circumstances. This is a very powerful message. May God bless you.
