A Strong Tower
“The name of the LORD is a strong tower; The righteous runs to it and is safe and set on high [far above evil].” Proverbs 18:10 AMP
One of the most comforting realities of our standing in Christ is this: God is our defender.
In ancient cities, fortresses were built with towers placed strategically for protection and perspective. The tower provided safety from attack and an elevated vantage point from which to observe the enemy’s movements. Often it served as the final stronghold — the last place of defense. Scripture tells us that the name of the LORD is our strong tower. When the enemy advances, we do not panic — we run to Him. And when we see from God’s perspective, circumstances take on a different meaning. The prophet Isaiah reminds us:
“No weapon that is formed against you will succeed; And every tongue that rises against you in judgment you will condemn. This [peace, righteousness, security, and triumph over opposition] is the heritage of the servants of the LORD, And this is their vindication from Me,” says the LORD.” Isaiah 54:17 AMP
Notice, it does not say weapons will not be formed. It says they will not ultimately succeed. The promise is not the absence of conflict, but the certainty of God’s vindication. Jesus reinforced this security when He said:
“And I also say to you that you are Peter, and on this rock I will build My church; and the gates of Hades shall not prevail against it.” Matthew 16:18 AMP
The church stands secure not because of Peter, but because of the confession that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of the living God. That confession is the rock. That truth is the tower. The Apostle Paul writes of the exalted name of Christ:
“After He was found in [terms of His] outward appearance as a man [for a divinely-appointed time], He humbled Himself [still further] by becoming obedient [to the Father] to the point of death, even death on a cross. For this reason also [because He obeyed and so completely humbled Himself], God has highly exalted Him and bestowed on Him the name which is above every name, so that at the name of Jesus EVERY KNEE SHALL BOW [in submission], of those who are in heaven and on earth and under the earth, and that every tongue will confess and openly acknowledge that Jesus Christ is Lord (sovereign God), to the glory of God the Father.”
Philippians 2:8–11 AMP
That is the name we run into. Scripture does not promise that perilous times will not come. In fact, we are told that after the arrival of the Antichrist he will make war against the saints.
“He was also permitted to wage war against the saints (God’s people) and to overcome them, and authority and power over every tribe and people and language and nation.” Revelation 13:7 AMP
Notice that word — permitted. Even in seasons of global upheaval, the enemy operates only within boundaries allowed by God. He has no independent authority. As we watch nations rage and cultures shift, we must remember: Christ is still on the throne. His authority is unmatched. His name is above every name. WE WIN!
When circumstances feel unstable, run to the tower.
When accusations rise, run to the tower.
When fear whispers, run to the tower.
Have a peaceful and confident day, Pastor Ken
