“All Scripture is God-breathed, given by divine inspiration and is profitable for instruction, for conviction of sin, for correction of error and restoration to obedience, for training in righteousness, learning to live in conformity to God’s will, both publicly and privately—behaving honorably with personal integrity and moral courage;” 2 Timothy 3:16 AMP
Our Scripture today confirms one of the pillars of our Christian faith, the inerrancy of the Word of God. The Greek word used here is theopneustos. You may recognize it as being a contraction of two root words, Theos, meaning God, and pneumo, meaning breath. The translation is literally “God-breathed.” It points to the fact that it wasn’t the ideas of men who wrote their thoughts, it defines the origin of the material as coming from God Himself. It is a divine revelation which we ourselves may depend upon as infallibly true. The Apostle Peter also confirms this in his second letter.
“for no prophecy was ever made by an act of human will, but men moved by the Holy Spirit spoke from God.” 2 Peter 1:21 AMP
Matthew Henery in his commentary of Second Peter describes the verse in this way.
“That the scripture was given by inspiration of God appears from the majesty of its style,—from the truth, purity, and sublimity, of the doctrines contained in it,—from the harmony of its several parts,—from its power and efficacy on the minds of multitudes that converse with it,—from the accomplishment of many prophecies relating to things beyond all human foresight,—and from the uncontrollable miracles that were wrought in proof of its divine original:[1]”
The writer of Hebrews also supports this claim in writing,
“God also testifying with them confirming the message of salvation, both by signs and wonders and by various miracles carried out by Jesus and the apostles and by [granting to believers the gifts of the Holy Spirit according to His own will.” Hebrews 2:4 AMP
It is interesting to note that when God created man from the dust he was simply an empty container until “God breathed” into him life and he became a living being. Now, it is the Word of God that “breathes” into us new life from above! It is from that source that we draw our daily spiritual food and drink so that we may continue to learn what is good and right and acceptable to the Lord. The Scripture is a perfect rule of faith and practice and was designed for the man of God to know how to order his life. In the Gospel of John, Jesus is presented as the author and source of the Word of God.
“In the beginning before all time was the Word (Christ), and the Word was with God, and the Word was God Himself. 2He was continually existing in the beginning co-eternally with God. 3All things were made and came into existence through Him; and without Him not even one thing was made that has come into being. 4In Him was life and the power to bestow life, and the life was the Light of men.” John 1:1-3 AMP
Verse four tells us that in Christ is life and that life comes through His Word. The Bible is the most feared book on the planet. The Bible is now banned, heavily restricted, or considered illegal in 52 countries which can lead to imprisonment, fines, or death. Are you taking the Scriptures as seriously as others? Have you gotten lax in your ability to access the Word of God without fear? Take time today to allow the power of His Word transform you into the person He has created you to be; free from the bondage of Satan! Have a blessed day, Pastor Ken
God’s Word is not merely written by men, but it is “God-breathed,” full of divine truth, power, and life to guide, correct, and transform us into the likeness of Christ.
God bless you abundantly in Jesus name such a wonderful message
Amen pastor.
