“The law of the LORD is perfect (flawless), restoring and refreshing the soul; the statutes of the LORD are reliable and trustworthy, making wise the simple…”
Psalm 19:7–10 AMP
Today the Psalmist gives us insight into the true source of wisdom and success—knowing the ways of God. When Solomon became king, God appeared to him in a dream and offered him anything he desired:
“That night the LORD appeared to Solomon in a dream, and God said, “What do you want? Ask, and I will give it to you!” 6Solomon replied, “You showed great and faithful love to your servant my father, David, because he was honest and true and faithful to you. And you have continued to show this great and faithful love to him today by giving him a son to sit on his throne. 7“Now, O LORD my God, you have made me king instead of my father, David, but I am like a little child who doesn’t know his way around. 8And here I am in the midst of your own chosen people, a nation so great and numerous they cannot be counted! 9Give me an understanding heart so that I can govern your people well and know the difference between right and wrong. For who by himself is able to govern this great people of yours?” 1 Kings 3:5-9 NLT
What an opportunity. Many people today might ask for wealth, fame, influence, or power. But Solomon recognized something far more valuable. Acknowledging his weakness and inability to lead on his own, he asked God for an understanding heart. Solomon understood that wisdom, not riches, was the true foundation for success. And because of that choice, God blessed him beyond measure. Solomon became one of the wisest and richest Kings throughout history!
Now consider the words used in Psalm 19 to describe the Word of God:
Perfect
Flawless
Reliable
Trustworthy
Restoring
Refreshing
The Word of God brings wisdom, joy, direction, and life. Unlike the world’s endless pursuit of success through seminars, formulas, and self-promotion, God freely offers His truth to those who seek Him. The foundation for truly understanding the things of God begins with a relationship with Jesus Christ.
Scripture says:
“because if you acknowledge and confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord [recognizing His power, authority, and majesty as God], and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, you will be saved.” Romans 10:9 AMP
Jesus also promised that believers would not walk alone. He said the Holy Spirit would come to guide us into truth:
“the Spirit of Truth, whom the world cannot receive [and take to its heart] because it does not see Him or know Him, but you know Him because He (the Holy Spirit) remains with you continually and will be in you.” John 14:7 AMP
The wisdom of God often appears foolish to the world because it calls us to humility, surrender, and trust in Him rather than ourselves. But the Psalmist declares that God’s Word is: “more desirable than gold… sweeter also than honey…”
So let me ask you: Do you value the Word of God more than worldly success? Are you pursuing His wisdom as passionately as others pursue wealth and recognition?
If you truly desire to walk in victory, spend time in His Word. It has the power to renew your mind, transform your heart, and direct your path.
Reflection Question
What are you pursuing most intensely right now—and does it reflect the value you place on God’s Word?
