The Power of Sin

“It was for this freedom that Christ set us free [completely liberating us]; therefore keep standing firm and do not be subject again to a yoke of slavery [which you once removed].” Galatians 5:1 AMP

Today we are reminded of the main role of Jesus’ sacrifice as applied to our physical life’s experience. We know that the power of sin is its ability to dominate and influence us, leading to separation from God and a cycle of destructive behavior. It is a force that can corrupt human life and hinder one’s spiritual growth. Jesus’ blood provides the necessary power to break the chain of addiction and set the prisoner free!. We must remember that sin isn’t the action that we do but rather the result of the power of sin moving us to do it! We read about the warning of sins power in the book of Genisis.

“And the LORD said to Cain, “Why are you so angry? And why do you look annoyed? 7If you do well [believing Me and doing what is acceptable and pleasing to Me], will you not be accepted? And if you do not do well [but ignore My instruction], sin crouches at your door; its desire is for you [to overpower you], but you must master it.” Genisis 4:6-7 AMP

Cain’s sacrifice was rejected by God, and he became jealous of his brother’s acceptance. God was warning Cain that if he did not master the power of sin it would lead to destruction. In the very next verse, we see Cain strike down his bother in a burst of sin’s power! Notice the words that are used here, “…And if you do not do well [but ignore My instruction], sin crouches at your door; its desire is for you [to overpower you].” Sin is an active force that is trying to master us but God is giving us the answer to the problem, don’t ignore God’s instructions! The promise given to Kig David’s son Solomon was as follows.

“Then it shall be, that if you listen to all that I command you and walk in My ways, and do what is right in My sight, keeping and observing My statutes and My commandments, as My servant David did, then I will be with you and build you an enduring house, as I built for David, and I will give Israel to you.” 1 Kings 11:38 AMP

The promise to us in the book of Deuteronomy for obedience is,

““It shall come about, if you listen obediently and pay attention to My commandments which I command you today–to love the LORD your God and to serve Him with all your heart and with all your soul [your choices, your thoughts, your whole being]– 14that [f]He will give the rain for your land in its season, the early [fall] rain and the late [spring] rain, so that you may gather in your grain and your new wine and your [olive] oil. 15And [g]He will give grass in your fields for your cattle, and you will eat and be satisfied.” Deuteronomy 11:13-15 AMP

The is however a warning also,

“Beware that your hearts are not deceived, and that you do not turn away [from the LORD] and serve other gods and worship them, 17or [else] the LORD’S anger will be kindled and burn against you, and He will shut up the heavens so that there will be no rain and the land will not yield its fruit; and you will perish quickly from the good land which the LORD is giving you.” Deuteronomy 11: 16-17 AMP

All of us want to be in the place where our land is yielding good fruit. Each one of us must answer the question that Joshua put to the people when entering the promised land of God.

““Now, therefore, fear the LORD and serve Him in sincerity and in truth; remove the gods which your fathers served on the other side of the [Euphrates] River and in Egypt, and serve the LORD. 15If it is unacceptable in your sight to serve the LORD, choose for yourselves this day whom you will serve: whether the gods which your fathers served that were on the other side of the River, or the gods of the Amorites in whose land you live; but as for me and my house, we will serve the LORD.” Joshua 24 14-15 AMP

My prayer is that you would choose the road of freedom leading to obedience and blessing in Christ! Have an obedient day! Pastor Ken
