“Give, and it will be given to you. They will pour into your lap a good measure—pressed down, shaken together, and running over [with no space left for more]. For with the standard of measurement you use [when you do good to others], it will be measured to you in return.” Luke 6:38 AMP
Jesus has just spent all night in prayer and then chooses His disciples. A great healing takes place and then Jesus delivers the “blessed” discourse. Most headings in the Bible title this section “Rules for Kingdom Life.” There are some very hard sayings there including “love you enemies,” and turn the other cheek when struck, or bless those who curse you. He closes this section with our opening verse.
Most of the time we read this verse and connect it to the area of money. Giving is always a touchy subject and one that many Christians struggle with today. We must remember that when we tithe, we are giving to God and not a man or ministry. The promise of God is that He will not forget our giving or labors of love in ministry to others.
“For God is not unjust so as to forget your work and the love which you have shown for His name in ministering to [the needs of] the saints (God’s people), as you do.” Hebrews 6:10 AMP
While certainly it is about money, but it is also about our whole life! The Apostle Paul reminded the Colossians,
“Whatever you do, work at it with your whole being, as for the Lord and not for men, / because you know that you will receive an inheritance from the Lord as your reward. It is the Lord Christ you are serving.” Colossians 3:23-24 AMP
It is so hard for us at times to remember that it is Christ that we are serving and not the person standing in front of us! That is why in the preceding verses Jesus warned about judging others. The message is plain and clear, how you treat others is how it is going to come back to you! Jesus put it this way,
“And whoever gives to one of these little ones [these who are humble in rank or influence] even a cup of cold water to drink because he is my disciple, truly I say to you, he will not lose his reward.” Matthew 10:42 AMP
There is a great verse in the Old Testament dealing with this issue,
“And if you offer yourself to [assist] the hungry And satisfy the need of the afflicted, Then your light will rise in darkness And your gloom will become like midday.” Isaih 58:10 AMP
Do you see it? If you are helping others your gloom or sadness will be turned to the light of day! What a great promise from our Father! Let me encourage you today that you cannot out give God! He will open the floodgates of heaven, and you will not be able to contain all of the blessings He has for your life! Have a blessed day. Pastor Ken
